We are an independent, self- funded enterprise within Student & Campus Life at Cornell University. We strive to deliver legendary customer service and quality products to meet the needs of the Cornell Community. In service of Cornell students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors, The Cornell Store team successfully runs a multi-channel retail business, including a 22,000 sq. ft. flagship campus store, 3 expansive e-commerce sites, and 3 satellite locations throughout the Ithaca area and NYC, ultimately producing a cumulative $26 million in annual retail sales.


We are currently seeking one (1) full-time Ithaca Branch Store Manager for our satellite locations.


The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Cornell Retail Services, the Ithaca Branch Store Manager is responsible for the overall performance and success of the units' pop-up shop events and Ithaca satellite stores, located at the Statler Hotel and the downtown Ithaca Commons. Specifically, this position oversees daily operations and logistics surrounding all aspects of the sales floor and staff management to ensure and improve customer satisfaction. Additionally, this role is responsible for the overall financial performance and sales revenue generation of the locations they oversee, approximately $2M annually, in total. The Ithaca Branch Store Manager is expected to lead by example and inspire, motivate, and develop an engaged and dynamic team.

A successful Ithaca Branch Store Manager will:

  • Display strong leadership of a multi-location team to achieve a positive work culture.
  • Collaborate with all branch locations by establishing and adhering to consistent communication standards for daily engagement at each site.
  • Be actively involved with staff performance by providing regular coaching. Daily feedback, consistent training, and developmental opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships, setting and demonstrating high standards for customer service, ensuring that all customers have a positive and satisfying shopping experience including resolving all unexpected issues or concerns quickly with tact and diplomacy.
  • Exhibits attention to detail in analyzing sales figures and performance metrics to support strategies for achieving sales goals.
  • Demonstrate superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and prioritize in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ensure all operational and University policies and procedures are implemented and maintained in a positive and consistent manner, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and security protocols.

Required Qualifications:

  • Trade or technical school degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Prior supervisory experience or experience in managing effective teams.
  • Technical/computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software as well as previous experience with retail inventory management systems including POS software.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, or other reporting tools.
  • Associate's degree or additional relevant management experience.
  • Work experience using and leveraging inventory management tools, retail POS systems, and/or financial reporting tools is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience training and coaching effective sales and service behaviors is also preferred.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work in Ithaca.
