Consumers Energy Lab Technical Analyst in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to the Trail Street Lab in Jackson, MI every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

We are looking for: Lab Technical Analyst

Laboratory Services is the single point of contact for providing technical expertise in the areas of calibration, chemistry, nondestructive and materials testing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance testing. We are committed to maintaining and strengthening our long-term working relationships by ensuring professionalism, competence, confidence, and trust are demonstrated with every service we provide. Our Laboratory uses modern technology and serves a diverse clientele in a wide variety of fields. We perform both laboratory and field work and offer pickup and delivery of equipment of any samples that require special handling.

The Lab Technical Analyst performs complex, analytical technical work. Contributes to technical projects or programs, responsible for not only the technical aspects of the projects but also quoting, customer interface, and logistical planning. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and international codes related to the testing and analysis being performed. Performs independent evaluations of new examination methods and technologies and works with internal and external stakeholders for process validation and approval. Uses technical knowledge, experience, and judgment to make decisions outside the scope of standard acceptance criteria.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to maintain performance and composure during audits and technical certification testing

  • Agility/ flexibility dependent upon varying department needs

  • Certification in a broad array of technical procedures (Variable and defined by specific department)

  • In-depth understanding of industry codes and requirements in order to develop examination procedures and methods

  • Independent/ Self-motivated/ Sustained high productivity

  • Problem solving around processes, equipment, and specific technical methods

  • Professional customer interface, requiring excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Project and program planning, including contingencies, logistics, customer coordination and interface

  • Reliably high quality, consistent work product

  • Timely reporting of examination data

  • Associate’s degree in technical, scientific, or related field with two (2) or more years of applicable experience

  • [OR] High School Diploma with four (4) or more years of applicable experience

The following skills/experience will set you apart:

  • Experience applying CE Way (Lean) Principles

  • Experience from a quality assurance/control perspective with one, or a combination of, manufacturing, construction, and/or engineering

  • Vendor/Supplier Auditing experience

  • Workingknowledge of SAP

In this role, you will:

The Laboratory Technical Analyst is responsible for performing routine analytical and/or quantitative and qualitative testing in accordance with industry accepted codes, specifications, and standards. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing moderately complex projects with minimal supervision and applying CE Way (Lean) concepts in order to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control the processes directly related to their particular area of focus. The successful candidate must possess working knowledge of quality assurance and quality control skills, which include problem solving, waste elimination, and audit facilitation. The Laboratory Technical Analyst supports the planning and execution of a wide variety of technical and business functions. The analyst will be expected to provide QA/QC services to various CE projects (i.e., gas delivery, electric generation, gas storage, gas compression, hydro generation, and/or renewable energy).

  • Contribute to long-term projects and programs, maintain responsibility for all customer facing aspects of the project

  • Equipment and test method evaluation and validation

  • Execute standard examination procedures

  • In-depth understanding of industry codes and requirements in order to develop examination procedures and methods

  • Plan and set up long-term technical test plans including examination protocols, logistics, communication, execution of test plan, all necessary QA/QC, and report submittals

  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
