Henry Ford Health System Pharmacy Technician - Ambulatory Pharmacy - Full Time - Jackson in Jackson, Michigan

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Eligible for a $2,500 Sign on Bonus

The Pharmacy Technician works under the operational supervision of a licensed pharmacist and provides a variety of pharmacy-related functions. The Pharmacy Technician may work in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, long term care, and retail settings. The Pharmacy Technician is fully competent to provide service in all satellite locations and other areas of the Pharmacy Department.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides pharmaceutical care through full utilization and practice of technical standards of a drug delivery system

  • Assists in the ordering, receiving and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.

  • Assists in the compounding and packaging of pharmaceuticals.

  • Completes data entry and record keeping to track prescriptions.

  • Delivers pharmaceuticals to various departments/units, including stocking of automation equipment and other medication storage devices.

  • Completes inventory processes, including automation updates, stocking, and rotating supplies.

  • Consistently uses AIDET to communicate with internal and external customers, including patients, family members, Pharmacists, and other staff.

  • Applies critical thinking to ensure customer’s needs are met, and seeks guidance from clinical staff or leadership when appropriate.

  • Answers telephones utilizing department scripting, provides direct telephone service or routes calls when necessary.

  • Accurately processes payment thru third party vendors and cash register transactions. Completed open and close process for cash register. (outpatient technicians)

  • Participates in training for satellites, purchasing and other areas of the Pharmacy Department to gain skill and knowledge.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Fully competent to provide service in all satellite locations and other areas of the Pharmacy Department.

  • Competence in IV area within 6 months of hire for inpatient technicians.

  • Competence in IV area required within 6 months of hire for inpatient technicians.

  • Typing ability of 30 words per minute or more required.

  • Ability to perform basic pharmacy math calculations required.

  • Must be competent in basic computer systems and comfortable learning new technology.

  • Must be experienced using basic office equipment and comfortable learning new healthcare equipment.

  • Must demonstrate professional communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Competence in IV and Chemo areas required.

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Valid State of MI pharmacy technician licensure required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree strongly preferred.
