GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must be ServSafe certified, must have an Associate Degree from a nationally/regionally accredited culinary arts program. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and 3 years of verifiable success as a Chef is preferred. Must have two years of instructional experience at an accredited culinary arts program which must be certified also by the American Culinary Federation or an accredited Secondary Career and Technical Program. Preference will be given to those candidates who have a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in Education or related field. A strong knowledge in baking, pastry, and catering is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Teach between 15-24 contact hours as assigned each semester.
Keep classes in session for the full scheduled time. (Classes identified in the schedule as hybrid classes will meet according to the requirements of the instructor.)
Provide at least six (6) office hours to meet with students over a 35-hour work week for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance.
Actively recruit students each semester and participate in recruitment events per the Office of Recruitment and the Dean of Career and Technical Education. (Summer, Fall, Spring)
Participate in student/teacher and faculty/administrator evaluations and performance review conferences.
Teach culinary classes according to the course curriculum.
Keep prompt, up-to-date, accurate records of attendance, grades, and other reports.
Follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying “no-shows” in a timely manner.
Develop daily lesson plans and instructional plans to meet course competency.
Develop creative instructional methods to engage students in learning process.
Develop instruction materials and handouts for students.
Set up classroom, lab, and other school equipment and supplies for students.
Prepare course assignments, tests, and projects to improve student’s academic performance.
Meet reporting requirements of the State Office of Vocational Technical Education.
Serve on committees as appointed.
Develop a personal and professional improvement plan in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.
Maintain students’ attendance and grade records.
Evaluate each student’s academic performance and provide feedback appropriately.
Participate in the establishment and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes.
Attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings.
Attend trainings and workshops for professional and skill development.
Ensure that students follow disciplinary and behavioral standards on the school campus.
Participate in departmental meetings, formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives.
Cooperate in the execution of the college, division, and department policies.
Recommend budgetary items and submitappropriate documentation for ordering items to the Dean’s office.
Review and select appropriate textbook and instructional materials.
Develop a cohesive, safe, and positive learning environment for students.
Provide support in student admission and retention processes.
Attend staff meetings and communicate budget needs to management.
Maintain proper inventory on all equipment and tools assigned to the program.
Ensure that the program has an active Advisory Committee that meets each Fall and Spring.
Present a personal appearance in keeping with contemporary community standards for a professional development workshops and trainings.
Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.
Participate in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the education profession.
Use teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Culinary Arts instructor will assume typical classroom supervisory responsibilities and may oversee students working in labs/classrooms.
