Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This vacancy is for the position of a Maintenance Worker (MVO), WG-4749-08, in which you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks incident to maintaining and operating the administrative and recreational facilities for the Saylorville Lake Project Office. Responsibilities Operate various types of trucks and equipment as required for operation and maintenance of land facilities. Perform miscellaneous maintenance work such as; making general repairs to equipment and small engines; clearing brush; mowing grass and weeds, etc., along with minor work in carpentry, masonry, and painting. Perform mechanical maintenance within prescribed maintenance schedules such a variety of basic operational checks, tune-ups, and clean and replace plugs on various items of equipment and engines to ensure operational status. Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer recommendations/policy and performs repairs to dam and appurtenant structure embankments, equipment, and instrumentation. Use appropriate safety gear to perform gate tower inspection, and maintenance and repair at various levels within the structure. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common maintenance tasks such as: masonry, carpentry, painting, operating and maintaining equipment and determine tools, methods, and sequence of work upon receipt for most work orders. Work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Majority of work requires light to moderate physical effort in the handling of equipment and tools, while working from scaffolds, standing, stooping, bending, working overhead, etc. Heavy physical effort is used in constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate heavy equipment and attachments. On occasion may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Depending upon type of duties being performed, works either outside under complete variety of weather conditions typical to the geographic area, or inside normally in heated or semi-heated areas. May be subject to electrical shock working in cramped quarters, falls, normal cuts and bruises associated with handling of a variety of hand-tools, and/or more serious injury associated with power tools, mobile equipment, etc. May work on steep slopes and in rough terrain operating a tractor. Subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
