About the Role: Production Supervisor (Public Service Manager 1)

As the Production Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in leading the production team at Iowa PBS. You will supervise, train, and empower a skilled group of Production Technicians, including senior staff and interns, ensuring seamless operations across all production activities. Under the direction of the Director of Content, your leadership will be essential in creating efficient workflows, coordinating schedules, and maintaining a high standard of quality in our broadcasts. You will also manage our production assets, including equipment, vehicles, and mobile units, and oversee purchasing to meet our current and future needs. This is a unique opportunity to bring your expertise in production management to an organization that values creativity and innovation in public broadcasting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Directly supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Production Technicians and interns, handling all aspects of hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and empower the team to achieve excellence.

• Production Coordination: Collaborate with staff to plan and coordinate all production activities, ensuring efficient workflows and adherence to budgets. Address equipment and software requirements to support high-quality content creation.

• Asset Management: Oversee the maintenance and management of production equipment, vehicles, and mobile units. Ensure all assets are operational and meet safety standards.

• Procurement: Research, recommend, and purchase equipment and supplies for production, and occasionally for other divisions. Identify and propose large capital items for future investments to senior leadership.

• Hands-on Production: Participate in productions as needed, stepping into various roles to optimize resources and control costs related to freelance and overtime work.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to ensure Iowa PBS remains at the forefront of production technology and methods. Provide recommendations for process improvements and equipment upgrades.

• Other Duties as Assigned: Take on additional responsibilities as directed by senior management to support Iowa PBS's mission and goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in production management, broadcasting, or a related field.

• Strong leadership skills with a track record of supervising and developing teams.

• Familiarity with budgeting, scheduling, and resource management in a production setting.

• Knowledge of broadcasting equipment, software, and asset management.

• Experience with procurement processes and capital project planning.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and make sound decisions under pressure.

• Willingness to take a hands-on approach to production tasks when needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to four years of full-time work in program administration, development, management, or operations.

2) Eight years of full-time work experience in program administration, development, management, or operations.

3) All of the following (a and b):

a. Four years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and

b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.

4) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Two years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and

b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience; and

c. A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is

also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.

5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Public Service Supervisor or comparable specific management-level position.
