Job Description Summary:
A Research Technician/Assistant position is immediately available for highly motivated individual. Applicant must have a bachelor\'s degree in biology, biochemistry, psychology, neuroscience, or related discipline. The individual will conduct research examining motor function and exercise protocols in animal models of aging and age-related neurodegenerative disease. These protocols will involve operant behavioral training. The job will require animal handling, injections, in vivo surgical procedures, tissue harvest, histology, immunohistochemistry, and other common biomedical research laboratory techniques. The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:
Job Duties:
Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:
- Behavioral training and data collection.
- Tissue harvest.
- Histology analysis.
- Routine animal care.
- Lab supply and ordering.
- Participate in regular communication with the PI.
- Data analysis and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance
- Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in biology, biochemistry, psychology, neuroscience, or related discipline.
Work Experience:
- Previous experience in a biomedical research lab using one or more of the following techniques: cell biology, histology, immunohistochemistry, enzyme biochemical assays, rodent behavioral assays, in vivo surgical procedures, tissue harvest.
- Previous experience with laboratory animal handling.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in biochemistry or neuroscience.
Work Experience:
- Operant behavioral training.
- Stereotaxic surgery.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
