DUTIES :

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks to support a bar or beer serving activity. Sets up bars carrying supplies and equipment, such as liquors, fruits, ice, glasses, linens, and silverware from storage areas to the bar. Prepares simple garnishes, slices and peels fruit use knives and automatic slicers.

Fills ice bins with ice. Ensures bar is in a presentable and sanitary condition.

May serve bottle beer, soft drinks, and draw beer from kegs or serve simple drinks under the close guidance of the Bartender. May receive payments, operate a cash register, make and return change to patrons or waiters. May also be required to prepare documentation for cash funds accountability.

Unloads and stacks supplies for storage. Replaces empty beer kegs with full kegs with the aid of a dolly; stocks beer coolers. Recognizes shortages of supplies and replenishes them as necessary.

Maintains a neat and clean work area. Cleans equipment, glasses and utensils and the bar area on a continuing basis following proper sanitation procedures. Washes and cleans, sinks, walls, cabinets, tables, chairs, and bar stools, mops floors, and sweeps carpet in bar area. Disposes of waste materials. Carries debris to waste containers.

Receives specific instructions concerning completion of assignments and makes simple decisions such as the type and amount of bar supplies needed from the storage room. With unusual assignments, the supervisor frequently checks the work, whereas repetitive assignments are completed with minimal supervision.

Completes required training in the serving of alcohol beverages before starting work. Annual, local refresher training is required and must be documented. Identifies persons who become unruly or who appear intoxicated, resolves the problem, or seeks assistance in accordance with established procedures.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

Minimum :
  • Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, and be able to use knives and automatic slicers to prepare garnishes.

  • Must be able to stoop, stand, and walk for long periods of time.

  • Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing 5 to 10 pounds, pull and push objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and over 40 pounds.

  • Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages

    Preferred (in addition to the minimum):
  • Six months previous bar assistant experience
