PeaceHealth Emergency Medicine - Per Diem in Ketchikan, Alaska

PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician for Per Diem work in Ketchikan, Alaska!

Ideal Candidate

  • Board Certified Emergency Medicine MD/DO

  • Must have an active Alaska License

  • Patient-focused, cohesive and friendly team member

  • Current certifications in ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and PALS.

The Emergency Department

  • Level IV trauma center open 24 hours a day, 365-days per year with 7,500 admissions per year

  • Imaging equipment (MRI, CT scanner, digital radiography) located adjacent to the ED for faster diagnosis

  • 8-bed Emergency Department with single-patient rooms to assure patient privacy, infection control, and a calm, quiet atmosphere. 6-bed ICU.

  • EM and Hospitalists respond to in-house codes and EM physicians may perform procedures

  • On-site and Visiting Specialists

  • Emergency transfer available when needed

  • Epic EMR

  • Spiritual Care Services

  • Financial Counseling

Job Description:

Demonstrates compassion, respect and caring while working within the scope of practice of Physician to provide safe and efficient care to patients and assistance to their families and visitors. Works collaboratively with all other healthcare team members toward the best outcomes for the patient and the organization. Provides professional services to the hospital and its patients.

Essential Functions

  • Practice of medicine within the scope of license, training and credentialing.

  • Practice of medicine in accordance with the current standards of care as well as the quality criteria adopted by the clinic.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served by demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Accredited School of Medicine Required: . and

  • Required: . completion of Internship/Residency Program in area of specialty

Experience

  • Required: Computer experience

Credentials

  • Required : Licensed to practice as a physician in the State, and board certified or board eligible and

  • Required : Drug Enforcement Admin Federal Number and

  • Required : Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and

  • May be required : Basic Life Support and

  • May be required : Advanced Cardiac Life Support and

  • May be required : Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical management of patients. (Required)

  • Maintains current knowledge and skills with continuing education. (Required)

  • Must meet all training requirements for specific department. (Required)

  • Able to work varied hours; rigorous on-call and call-back schedule. (Required)

  • Must not be a practitioner excluded from participation in the Medicare or Medicaid program. (Required)

PHMG:

  • Certification in BLS, ACLS or PALS required as a condition of employment within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

  • Bending/ stooping / reaching occasionally.

  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
