GIS Full Stack Developer & Administrator

Opportunity

The Geospatial Full-Stack Developer and Administrator has the primary responsibility for owning and maintaining Kohler Company’s geospatial data, systems, and tools. This professional possesses both front-end and back-end development skills, along with expertise in analyzing and managing geospatial data, allowing them to build and maintain complete web applications that incorporate maps, spatial analysis, and visualization features, while also overseeing the underlying geospatial data infrastructure and systems. In addition to managing the overall geospatial ecosystem, this professional must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal customers and apply geospatial problem solving to business problems.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a long-term strategy for using GIS to support Kohler’s goals and objectives.

  • Create user interfaces for maps and geospatial data and integrate with other applications or dashboards.

  • Building APIs to process and serve geospatial data from databases, handling data transformations, spatial queries, and calculations.

  • Managing geospatial databases, including data integrity, schema design, optimization, and backups.

  • Connecting different data sources to create comprehensive geospatial datasets.

  • Deploying and managing applications and dashboards and optimizing the user interface and performance.

  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for expanding Kohler’s geospatial capabilities and solutions.

  • Advocate for the value and benefits of geospatial technology within the organization.

  • Manage the technical aspects for geospatial research and development initiatives. This includes developing strategies and workflows for the creation, storage, transformation, editing, refreshing, and development of new solutions.

  • Establish and maintain GIS roadmap, driving alignment with cross-functional stakeholders and partners.

  • Establish and maintain quality standards, best practices, and workflows for geospatial data, analysis, and visualizations.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography with a focus in GIS, and a master’s degree in geospatial sciences.

  • 10+ years of professional experience.

  • 5+ years of coding experience in Python, and notebooks, with an emphasis on geospatial libraries.

  • Intimate knowledge of geospatial technology in an operational environment (e.g. ESRI, QGIS, GDAL).

  • Intimate knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise; including ArcPro, ArcServer, and Portal.

  • Experience managing workflow automation and scripting tools (e.g. Python, JavaScript).

  • Experience using source control systems (e.g. GitHub, Bitbucket).

  • Experience using Postgres and Microsoft SQL Server to write complex queries using database languages (e.g. SQL, TSQL).

  • Experience with DevOps and automation tools (e.g. Docker, Podman, Gitlab).

  • Must be able to quickly shift priorities due to business and/or customer requests.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Diverse background working with geospatial database design, development, and management.

  • Experience in geospatial analysis, business analytics and workflows, data interpretation, database management, and GIS software development tools.

  • Excellent experience with GIS principles and analytical techniques, GIS science theory, application, and computational methods. Also requires broad skills in the analysis, display, and interpretation of various scientific and geospatial data.

  • Experience with planning, coordinating, analyzing, designing, constructing, implementing, and documenting of new functionality and modifications to various databases, tools, and applications to enhance and support business processes and meet information needs of internal customers.

  • Must have strong communication (verbal and written), analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to provide efficient, reliable, and courteous service to all customers.

The salary range for this position is $102,500 - $130,550. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
