Senior Design Engineer

The Senior Design Engineer directs and participates in the concept and design of complex engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. The key role of a Sr. Design Engineer is that of contributor to the planning and delivery of a project. This position will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the job is on technical delivery

What you will do:

  • Performs complex analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems.

  • Ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner.

  • Keep up to date on changing customer needs as the project progresses, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians.

  • Bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery.

  • Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: design and promote new components and sub processes; perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products or processes; perform product maintenance; keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies; communicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers and other units; and support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers.

  • Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology.

  • Key skills to be developed at this level are failure prediction and management, technology time/cost analysis, spatial design, conceptual design, practical application of theory, knowledge of the NPI process, and communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant field- equivalent experience

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering or relevant field

  • Fabrication design experience

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.

  • Experience with Creo, 3-D modeling, and component design is a plus.

  • Factory support experience

  • CR, NTI, NPI, CPI and Six Sigma experience is a plus

  • APQP experience

  • Component/Supplier strategy development experience

Managing Multiple Priorities: Extensive Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

Technical Excellence: Extensive Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Extensive Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

Product Design - MFG: Extensive Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Product Design and Development: Extensive Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
