BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The M GL LANAI Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)
JOB FUNCTION:
Supervises the operations and maintenance of Lanai’s generation, plant equipment, and related activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plans, supervises and coordinates daily operations, including troubleshooting, staffing levels, and equipment and fuel purchases. Maximizes unit availability, reliability and capability through proper maintenance and operation.
Develops programs, standardized operations and training procedures and plant development to ensure safety, reliability, and protection of systems in an effective and efficient manner.
Performs related engineering functions, including analysis of loading of generators, equipment troubleshooting, system operation, planning and design, and external contractor communication and coordination.
Provides technical expertise, training, and supervision to various employees and units.
Develops and/or maintains appropriate plant reports, records, and logs; including, environmental permits and equipment drawings. Responsible for office records and inventory reports to various departments.
Initiates/supervises various capital budget improvements that can be accomplished with a minimum of outside contract assistance.
Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
Working knowledge of station generating units and systems, electrical system operations, operating policies and operating emergency corrective procedures.
Thorough knowledge of System Operation practices and procedures, and power plant operations and systems.
Basic knowledge of electronic systems, electric generation and distribution systems, heat transfer, thermodynamics, internal combustion engines, steam boilers and turbo machinery.
Strong knowledge in personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
Thorough knowledge of Company policies and procedures contained in documents such as the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Safety Manual, Accident Prevention Manual, etc.
Skills Requirements
Must be able to read, comprehend and utilize technical publications such as unit data books, blueprints and piping/instrument diagrams.
Supervisory and leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals frequently dealing with sensitive, difficult, or confrontational issues. Ability to lead and provide direction to employees.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful and emergency conditions.
Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to analyze and understand complex electrical diagrams. Ability to conceptualize new ideas quickly with attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals within the plant and related areas.
Organizational skills to perform administrative duties.
Effective oral and written communications.
Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
Experience Requirements
Multiple years (5-7 years) experience in a power plant production environment, including two years with diesel generating
A few years (1-2 years) experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
