Summary The Health Technician(Radiology) works with Patients, Advanced Medical Support Assistants, Diagnostic Imaging Technologists, and Radiologists. Prepares examination rooms in all sections of Diagnostic Imaging Service(DIS), X-Ray, Mammography, IR, CT MRI and Ultrasound. Work with patients, including transporting inpatients to and from the Waiting Room, Nursing Units, Emergency Department, and Community Living Center Assisting technologists and radiologists in preparation and completion of imaging. Responsibilities Major Duties include but are not limited to the following: Transports patients to and from the ER and Radiology departments for exams. Communicates with inpatients/residents/Outpatients, families and others. Establish and promote effective working relationships with other employees within the department. Utilizes specialized equipment such as ceiling lifters, Maxi lifters, wheelchair movers, steady and electric stretchers according to Safe Patient Handling and Movement Policy. Can recognizes and take appropriate action in emergency situations such as performing CPR, and know and understand code white seizure precautions and safety during seizures. Obtains restocks the holding room with supplies from the pyxis machine and assists technologists when they need a chaperon during minor radiologic exams when appropriate and within skills and knowledge level. Create and promote effective interpersonal relationships and communications with patients' families and others Create and promote effective working relationships with other employees within the department and work area. Communicates efficiently and effectively over VOCERA, Teams, and e-mail. Maintains safe and sanitary environment for inpatients/residents/Outpatients, staff and visitors. Handles and correctly reacts to the potential exposure to infectious waste , disease, odors, and other situations associated with healthcare to include adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines. Can use and follows proper hand hygiene, universal precautions and general infection control principles. Gathers/documents essential and accurate information about patients such as medical history, vital signs, chief complaints, allergies, pertinent health problems, and current medications. Carries records, reports and ticket to ride with patient information to designated areas. Work Schedule: Various tours to include days, swings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. In addition to the IOR candidates must meet the following grade requirements. GS-5 Health Technician: Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-4) in the Federal Service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health Technician. Specialized experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques related to the position and includes, but is not limited to: knowledge of computerized systems; knowledge and understanding of patient conditions and medical intervention; knowledge and understanding of clinical principals and impact on patient care. Communicating effectively orally and in writing. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Transcripts required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Transcripts required, and experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
