Chemours is seeking an Operator Mechanic to join our growing team! This position will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisors at our Florida locations.

Monitors and operates equipment and facilities, including field equipment, insuring quality and conformance with standard operating procedures. Maintains safety standards at all times and initiates and follows emergency procedures when necessary. Performs basic maintenance repair and upkeep on area equipment. May perform advanced maintenance activities, as qualified.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Documents results and changes made to processes.

  • Troubleshoots problems with equipment using hand tools or Mining Plan Map in order to maintain equipment operation. Starts up and shuts down equipment as needed.

  • Maintain mechanical integrity of equipment, bearings, belts, etc.

  • Performs pre-start up audits on equipment, i.e., tractors and boats to assume safe, efficient operation.

  • Checks equipment and performs maintenance repairs, i.e., changing pumps, drive belts and roll brushes to keep equipment operating.

  • Conduct and document temperature checks on process equipment.

  • Inspects safety equipment, i.e., safety showers, eye wash stations, safety belts, fire extinguishers, breathing air apparatus, etc. in order to ensure equipment is operational and/or ready to use if necessary.

  • Greases and lubricates pumps, bearings, and related equipment to prolong the life of the equipment. Adjust packing and maintain pumps as needed.

  • Conduct housekeeping on process equipment.

  • Rigs, installs, aligns, pumps, motors, piping and assorted equipment to restore operation.

  • Re-clamps cables using various tools and hydraulic presses in order to restore operation.

  • Disassemble and reassembles pumps and installs temporary patches using mechanical procedures and welding equipment in order to restore operation.

  • Assists in adding or removing feed line, tail line, slurry line

  • Gathers samples from designated locations.

  • Communicates status of the operation with other departments to ensure appropriate information is received in order to maintain safe, efficient operation of the site.

  • Maintain high standard of housekeeping in area including cleaning up spillage each shift.

  • Repair equipment when unexpected failures occur.

  • Trains new and incumbent operators to teach new skills or improve existing skills.

  • Assist Operations/Maintenance teams during scheduled repairs

  • Assist Reliability with equipment checks

The following is required for this role:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and ability to read and write the English language.

  • Knowledge of processes and equipment, i.e., tractor, work boat, truck, etc.

  • Ability to operate and check the operation of plan equipment and perform preventive and general maintenance.

  • Knowledge of mechanical reasoning/mechanical repairs. Ability to use tools and mechanical equipment to perform work.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form.

  • Ability to perform different tasks while assuring that each are accomplished safely and efficiently.
