Job Title: HVAC Technician

Job Description

Perform HVAC maintenance and repair at Fort Sill. This is a full-time position with hours from Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm year-round with minimal overtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair to hydronic and refrigeration systems, including air handling units, DX coil/condensing units, fan coil units, and variable air volume (VAV) units.

• Maintain, repair, or replace domestic and heating hot water boilers up to 1,000,000 BTU.

• Repair or replace commercial/residential HVAC systems under 25 tons.

• Follow mechanical codes for installing and replacing HVAC systems.

• Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.

• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.

• Install evaporator units in chassis or air-duct systems using hand tools.

• Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting/bending equipment and tools.

• Cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.

• Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, unions, and solder joints using a torch to form a complete circuit for refrigerant.

• Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source.

• Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.

• Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.

• Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap and water solution.

• Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.

Essential Skills

• EPA Universal Certification

• 2-4.5+ years of HVAC experience or combination of experience and formal vocational training

• Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record

• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s)

• Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and supervision

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Service and repair experience on HVAC units is required

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $61360.00/yr.

Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 year-round with minimal overtime.

Base Pay: $23.50 hourly plus $6.00 an hour for health and welfare
