Shift | Primarily Days Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, some evenings and weekends may be required due to experimentation. |
Job Summary | A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available for a motivated, ambitious, and talented scientist to study the roles of lipoproteins in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in the laboratory of Dr. Scott Gordon in the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Our laboratory mainly focuses on roles of lipoproteins in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and mechanisms of lipid absorption by the intestine and how this process can impact metabolic health. We are seeking outstanding scientists with Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degrees. The ideal candidate will have research experience in the field of cardiovascular disease and lipid or lipoprotein metabolism, but outstanding candidates with experience in other areas will be considered. Responsibilities of the position include working with Dr. Gordon to conduct NIH-sponsored research on how posttranslational modifications to lipoproteins affect atherosclerosis pathophysiology, to include designing and conducting experimental studies within an interdisciplinary team; and organizing, analyzing, and presenting experimental data. Experience with cell culture, biochemical and molecular biology, immunohistochemistry techniques, and background in small animal model systems are desirable. All applicants should have excellent oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will be highly independent and be able to work collaboratively to advance their projects. The candidate must be able to pursue intellectually and technically complex projects through completion. The appointee will be given autonomy to grow as an independent scientist while working as part of the team to accelerate the research objectives of the lab as well as opportunities for career development. Salary Range: Minimum of $54,000 per year or commensurate with experience. Low cost of living and good school districts in Lexington, KY are added advantages.
