Ford Motor Company Engineering Specialist - Assembly Process in Livonia, Michigan

In this position...

You will apply engineering principles & analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products.

What you'll do...

  • Support Manufacturing Process Engineering activity for Transmission Assembly Processes

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality and productivity

  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to identify throughput constraints and continuously improve manufacturing processes

  • Support troubleshooting activities on assembly station (press, fastening, vision sensor), test stand, robot, gantry, and conveyor system down time issues with maintenance and the production team

  • Investigate and reduce assembly scrap

  • Investigate and drive assembly and test first time through improvements

  • Develop action plans as required to investigate and prioritize quality concerns and verify corrective actions

  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure process discipline is consistent with procedures

  • Create process and instruction sheets supporting quality methods and processes

  • Ensure compliance to Plant, Corporate, Governmental and Environmental standards

  • Work flexible shifts including afternoon shift, overtime and weekends as needed

  • Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times and downtime of equipment, review and follow up on issues for machine performance

You'll have...

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent

  • 1 or more years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment (internship and coop experience will be considered)

Even better, you may have...

  • Bachelors Degree, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • 2 or more years with power train assembly or equivalent manufacturing experience

  • Experience with ABB robots including the ability to modify programmed teach points and recover

  • Experience with Promess press systems including the ability to review and modify programs

  • Experience with Cognex and Keyence vision sensors and programming software

  • Experience with Atlas Copco fastening systems including the ability to review and modify programs.

  • Sciemetric Studio and WMA analysis software experience

  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience

  • 4D, 8D and 3L5W corrective action and problem solving skills

  • Solid understanding of Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping

  • Knowledge of TQM and Kaizen Methods

  • FMEA, PPAP, and DOEs experience

  • Validated experience with Visual Factory Management

  • Demonstrated ability to read part prints, blueprints, modify drawings and use AutoCAD

  • Ergonomic analysis knowledge and experience

  • Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills

  • One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)

This position is a range of salary grades 6, 7 and 8.
