Key job responsibilities

This role is PMO Program Manager.

Launch programmes, monitor performance metrics, and report on the status of key objectives that affect deliverables

Use data to understand operational challenges and create continuous improvement initiatives

Work with a variety of other Amazon departments to identify and leverage best practices

Within a programme environment, lead a multidisciplinary team in overcoming challenges and drive progress

Manage stakeholders and internal processes, and define standards

A day in the life

A PMO (Project Management Office) program manager typically has the following day-to-day responsibilities:

Establishing and maintaining PMO processes, templates, and tools to ensure consistent project delivery

Providing guidance and support to project managers on project management best practices

Monitoring the status of active projects, identifying and mitigating risks/issues

Collaborating with functional leaders to ensure projects deliver the intended business value

Communicating project portfolio progress and performance to executive stakeholders

Maintaining the project management information system and supporting documentation

Identifying and implementing PMO process enhancements to drive greater efficiency

Developing and monitoring PMO budgets and resource plans

Fostering a project management community of practice within the organization

The overarching goal is to establish standardized project management practices, provide expert guidance, and optimize the delivery of strategic initiatives across the organization. The PMO program manager acts as a central hub to enable consistent, high-quality project execution.

Our Amazon Grocery logistics (AGL) team breathes life into our newest ideas and incubates them until they grow into sophisticated businesses. We’ve got the energy of an exciting start-up, as our team works on Amazon’s next big project, under the umbrella of one of the world’s biggest companies.

We work behind the scenes to support new areas of the business - like Amazon Fresh stores and our online grocery service. There are lots of opportunities for every skill set, from operations to supply chain to data management.

AGL’s goal is to help develop new capabilities within Amazon on behalf of our customers. This entrepreneurial team has a deep understanding of the needs of our customers, employees and partners and helps to develop Amazon businesses of all sizes.

Basic Qualifications

  • A degree

  • Relevant experience leading cross-functional programmes or projects using project-management methodologies

  • Relevant experience in using data or anecdotal evidence to influence business decisions

  • Relevant experience leading complex projects with a wide range of stakeholders, including your peers and leadership

  • Experience working with the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or SQL in a professional environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced or master’s degree

  • Project-management qualification such as PRINCE2, APM, PMI, or similar

  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Lean

  • Experience working in an operational environment or with technical teams
