Actalent Advanced Solidworks Drafter in Long Island City, New York

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced SolidWorks Drafter in Long Island City, Queens.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Drafter to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in modeling, a deep understanding of mechanics, and proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD software.

This role requires someone who is humble, open to feedback, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Top 3 Must-Have Skills

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks:

  • Ability to use advanced tools such as Draft, Radius, Blending, Chamfer, and Spline.

  • Experience in creating detailed 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Skill in rendering parts and assemblies to appear realistic using SolidWorks basic functionality.

  • Technical Drawing and Dimensioning:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and mechanisms.

  • Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Precise application of dimensions to ensure proper fit and function of components.

  • Assembly and Testing:

  • Ability to simulate and verify the assembly process of mechanical parts using SolidWorks.

  • Skill in detecting clearances or interferences within an assembly or component differences.

  • Experience in setting up and conducting tests of complete units and parts to improve equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modeling: Create detailed 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.

  • Drafting Drawings: Produce accurate and detailed technical drawings for manufacturing and assembly.

  • Dimensioning: Apply precise dimensions to drawings to ensure proper fit and function of components.

  • Assembly: Utilize SolidWorks tools to simulate and verify the assembly process of mechanical parts.

  • Generate parts and assemblies in 3D modeling software.

  • Assist with creating exploded views of assemblies and graphical representations of parts and assemblies for marketing purposes.

  • Act as liaison between the Engineering and Marketing/Graphics departments.

  • Prepare layouts and drawings of parts and assemblies, bills of materials, and system specifications.

  • Assist engineers in the design, development, testing, installation, and operation of mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Analyze, calculate, estimate, and assist in costing of parts and assemblies.

  • Set up and conduct tests of complete units and of parts as they would actually be used, as a way to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance.

  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in products or test methods. Compare test results to design specifications and test objectives.

  • Utilize appropriate tools, instruments, testing equipment, and gauges for measurements, testing, and studies.

  • Operate minor fabrication equipment such as drill press, cutting tools, tread tapping, etc.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in a related field: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Without a degree: 3-4 years of relevant experience.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD software.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and mechanisms.

  • Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Understanding of terminology, modeling, and dimensional drawing tolerancing for parts that can be tooled for molds, extrusions, castings, etc.

  • Ability to use Draft in SolidWorks effectively to ensure parts come out cleanly (no undercuts).

  • Proficiency with advanced SolidWorks tools such as Radius, Blending, Chamfer, and Spline.

  • Ability to measure distances of features or components quickly.

  • Ability to detect clearances or interferences within an assembly or component differences.

  • Understanding of how to place imported images onto surfaces of parts or assembly components for rendering.

  • Ability to render in SolidWorks to make parts and assemblies appear realistic using basic functionality.

  • Nice to Have:

  • Standards Knowledge: Understanding of ASME 14.1 standards.

  • Drawing Techniques: Knowledge of best practices in drafting and drawing techniques.

  • SolidWorks Motion and Simulation: Experience with these tools is a plus.

Compensation: Hourly Rate: $30-$35 per hour.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00
