Los Alamos National Laboratory Production Liaision Quality Assurance Analyst (3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Quality Assurance Analyst 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Production Liaison Group (W-8) of the Weapon Systems Engineering Division is looking for a quality assurance analyst to serve at the Pantex (Tri-Lab Project Office) duty station in Amarillo, TX.

W-8 is responsible for the definition and oversight of weapon production activities at the production agencies (PAs). W-8 has duty stations onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and offsite at Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), the Pantex Plant (Tri-Lab Project Office), and the Y-12 National Security Complex. W-8 partners with all legacy programs, Life Extension Programs (LEPs), alteration programs (Alts), new programs, technology maturation, physics, and quality. In addition, W-8's portfolio provides a platform to partner with both internal and external stakeholders.

Quality Assurance Analyst 3 ($92,300- $151,000)

The position will lead Engineering Authorizations (EA) tracking (to meet production priorities and milestones), Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS) quality document reviews (for compliance with NAP401.1A, Product Realization, and phase X Process), and monitor/collect/tabulate/analyze electronic data (to ensure proper data is being collected, evaluated, and stored). The position requires the selected candidate to work closely with W-8 Production Liaison (PL) personnel, Engineering Authorization personnel, ALDW-DAQ (Quality) personnel, various internal LANL groups within W, Q, and E Divisions; and production agency (PA) counterparts. Work is in a highly variable environment that requires close cooperation, collaboration, adaptability, de-escalation of conflict techniques, and taking initiative in completing tasks. This position will require regular access to the electronic database and secure network. The selected candidate will serve as the point of contact (POC) for DA/PA Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreements, quality reviews, and maintain the component list dataset. The position will assist Technical Leads with GE Documents, HRP records, TLD badge tracking, and training (at the respective PA).

Quality Assurance Analyst 4 ($112,000-$186,700)

In addition to what is outlined at the 3 level, a QAA 4 will be responsible for developing and maintaining production metrics by program, working independently and collaboratively on the data management of EAs related to qualification efforts and lead customer-focused initiatives as required. The candidate will also work with group management, the technical lead(s), and other liaisons to develop and execute strategic plans aimed at creating a robust data set to support ongoing production evaluations and for future reference (e.g., surveillance).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Quality Assurance Experience

Advanced knowledge of and experience with Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS), LANL Design Agency (DA) roles, and Weapon System Engineering policies, procedures and best practices. Thorough understanding of Production Qualification procedures, checklists, and templates. Advanced knowledge and experience in technical editorial review to include proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, and attention to detail with high level of accuracy when reviewing technical documents, diagrams, drawings and component lists.

Data Management

Advanced experience with relevant software applications, spreadsheets, and word tools. Demonstrated expertise in management of classified materials and electronic media. Advanced experience with procedures related to quality, data gathering and analysis, cause and corrective action determination, and process improvement activities. Demonstrated experience with configuration management (e.g., upload documents generated from data mining, reference documents, program build records/books, surveillance data, non-destructive evaluation reports, and significant finding information data collection) and quality control.

Personal Leadership

Successful experience making independent decisions within area of responsibility. Advanced experience in effectively supporting multiple high-level deliverables and/or assignments in a timely manner.

Communication and Teamwork

Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships. In depth knowledge of security requirements and definitions, especially in regards to nuclear weapons technologies, components, and protection of related documentation. Demonstrated ability to communicate concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing.

Leadership Experience

Experience leading and guiding others through data mining, quality reviews, and processes. Proven ability to mentor others. Proven experience with leading team assignments and interactions with PA counterparts to ensure deliverables are realized.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the level 4 requires:

Advanced Quality Assurance Experience

Advanced experience in preparing and maintaining summaries (by program) for definition changes, significant process upsets, and exceptions/deviations. Advanced experience preparing engineering evaluation (EE) data packages, and program build records/books. Demonstrated exceptional skill in the preparation and presentation of quality reports.

Advanced Data Management

Advanced experience preparing and maintaining the qualification evaluation releases (QER) and re-evaluation notices (REN) schedule (by program).

Collaboration and Personal Responsibility

Demonstrated commitment to quality and customer focus. Advanced level to interact successfully under pressure.

Education/ Experience Quality Assurance Analyst 3: The position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/ Experience Quality Assurance Analyst 4: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with the engineering authorization system, document management systems (e.g., EALink and PDMLink) and applications to stockpile maintenance.

  • Experience with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Visio.

  • Experience with Product Realization Teams (PRTs).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the B61, W76, W78, and W88 weapon systems (e.g., legacy, modernization, new programs, material streams, technology maturation, quality or physics).

  • Demonstrated experience interacting with NNSA, DAs and PAs.

  • Derivative Classifier (DC) experience.

  • Active DOE Q-Clearance and Sigma 15 authorization.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
