Jacobs Deputy Design Manager in Los Angeles, California

As the Deputy Design Manager under the General Engineering Consultant IV contract (GECIV), you’ll be assisting the team as the owner’s rep to assist HART in managing the final design development of the City Center Guideway and Stations (CCGS) Design-Build for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project (HRTP). The CCGS DB segment is comprised of a 4-mile elevated guideway, with up to 8 stations, including development of systems facilities, and the improvement/relocations of roadways, utilities, and landscaping. In addition to CCGS, you will help manage designs and provide design support as it relates to other on-going Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART) projects.

Using your experience, you’ll oversee the review of final design submittals, refinement of conceptual designs, updates to project baseline documents, design support during construction, special engineering studies, and procurement support and miscellaneous designs as requested by the HART. You’ll serve as the onsite Owner’s Representative, responsible for ensuring not only the progress and technical performance of the CCGS Contract, but also the material management of schedule, cost, scope and safety of the team.

This position will be on-site in the HART offices.

Other responsibilities include:

• Coordinating with engineers and designers, environmental planning and compliance, and property acquisitions specialists on CCGS, and other design projects.

• Collaborating with other HART Departments (Design and Construction, Quality Assurance and Quality Controls, Project Controls, etc.)

• Resolving complex design and construction project related issues, disputes, and disagreements.

• Providing assistance to the Program Manager in overall project delivery and management of the HART GEC IV staff supporting the design development and review of the final designs, and other activities as described in the HART GEC IV contract.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or Construction Management

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) with ability to obtain within Hawaii PE in 6 months.

• 10-15 years of progressive experience as a lead discipline engineer in transit infrastructure engineering and design.

• At least 2-5 years of design management experience in transit infrastructure engineering and design.

• Experience as an Owner’s Representative involving light-rail construction (preferred)

• Strong working knowledge of pre-design and pre-construction, building systems/components and technology, contract management, project delivery methods, team and client relationship building.

• Ability to work in client office full-time (Honolulu, HI)
