DescriptionSummary ObjectiveUtilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in various geographic locations and circumstances. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis. Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.This class works as directed, under limited supervision and reporting major activities through periodic meetings with Team Leader/Supervisor.Examples of DutiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Maintains and administers various GIS systems as needed. Utilizes ArcGIS Desktop software (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) and ArcGIS Online to produce digital maps, map books, displays, charts, analysis, presentations, and online applications for use by government agencies, companies, and the public.Prepares GIS layers, applications, and data sets for various departments, both internal and external. Creates and updates Metadata.Maintains databases and ensures that databases meet standards, are up to date, and accurate. Creates ArcGIS online and mobile applications. (e.g., Field maps, Survey123, Dashboards Experience Builder).Creates data and processes to observe operations and to gather relevant information in the field.Utilize Model Builder, Arcade, and Python to automate processes and build advanced layer configurations.Answers questions and provides information concerning GIS application programs, projects, and activities. Research solutions and develop technical competency through organizational involvement and continuing education.Creates training documentation and maintains standard operation procedures. Provide training on GIS related topics, projects, and procedures.Serves as technical lead and provides Quality Control to other GIS team members and departments.Shares technical knowledge and coordinates work activities with other GIS team members and departments. Leverage windows Environment software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) to create supporting data and document processes. Minimum RequirementsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s Degree in Cartography, Computer Science, GIS, Geography, or related discipline. Two (2) years computer-aided: mapping, design, drafting; graphics, geographic information or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:None.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.Performs field work that may involve walking, hiking, or biking.
