City of Lubbock Administrative Assistant - MMS in Lubbock, Texas

Summary

Performs paraprofessional level duties to assist Materials Management Services department and maintain library collection materials.

Essential Functions
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons and coworkers at all times;
  • Take part in library outreach endeavors;
  • Maintain and process periodicals
  • Assist in processing new library materials;
  • Assist in repairing damaged library items;
  • Assist with maintenance of the computerized library catalog;
  • Assist patrons in the use of library facilities, technology, and materials;
  • Keep up with inventory and order supplies when needed;
  • Explain and enforce library policies and procedures to library users and staff;
  • Provide training to new employees;
  • Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to six years of increasingly responsible secretarial experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Library ILS (SirsiDynix preferred);
  • Library organization, policies, and procedures;
  • Program development and implementation;
  • Customer service skills;
  • A variety of library materials, resources, and technology.

Ability to:

  • Promote library services and public relations;
  • Operate computer and relevant software;
  • Communicate effectively with others.

*Physical Requirements: *

  • Occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Occasionally carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Occasionally bend and kneel;
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height;
  • Frequently push and pull objects.
