JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer must be a highly motivated, hands-on, self-driven team player that has the ability to perform in a dynamic prototyping environment. The preferred candidate will be able to bring a fresh perspective to the design team and have a strong desire for innovation. The preferred candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer with broad technical knowledge base to support the development and structural design of all facets of the flight simulator platform. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain electro-mechanical products, systems, and processes to support new and existing commercial and military aircraft flight simulator trainers.
Create new component parts, assemblies, and production drawings in 3D Solidworks CAD software
Alters and/or modify designs to meet specified functional and operational performance requirements
Confer with peers and stakeholders to implement new designs, resolve system operation errors, and implement procedures
Review and evaluate existing mechanical design drawings and specifications
Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of your designs to ensure that equipment and systems are installed and functioning according to specifications
Create and present design engineering data for internal and customer design reviews
Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule, and supply of materials required to maintain equipment and systems in prescribed condition
Assist with cost estimation and preparation of contract documents
Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
Keep current on future technologies and products to determine where and how such products can be incorporated into designs
Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical, Physics, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
Minimum 5 years of Flight Simulation mechanical design engineering experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to obtain security clearance required
Familiarity with:
Design engineering techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of 3D CAD parts, assembly models and 2D drawing packages. Solidworks experience and certification required.
Design for Manufacturing best practices including material selection, production processes, quality control, material costs and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods.
Welding, machining, sheet metal, composite, 3D printing, fastening manufacturing/fabrication processes a plus.
Finite element analysis a plus
High degree of mechanical aptitude with ability to understand complex machinery both from a theoretical and practical standpoint
Must have experience specifying proper manufacturing processes for new design fabrication including machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
Must have experience with detailed mechanical mechanism design including specifying bearings, gears, pullies, press fits, tolerancing, motors, couplings, and fasteners
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Exceptional written and verbal communication
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Ability to work on multiple projects at once
Able to quickly adapt to change
Must have expert level experience with detailed mechanical design of flight simulator control system linkage, structural weldments, and electromechanical packaging.
