JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Hauled Waste Acceptance Program Coordinator is responsible for the growth, development, implementation, and management of the District\'s hauled waste receiving program with the purpose of characterizing and identifying domestic and non-domestic hauled waste pollutants, the source of those pollutants, and mitigating the negative impact of these pollutants to the District while maximizing the benefits. The Hauled Waste Acceptance Coordinator works under the general direction of the Ecosystem Services Director. Who We Are Established in 1930 to protect the lakes and streams of the upper Yahara watershed, the District is a wastewater collection and treatment utility serving about 429,000 people in 24 Madison-area owner communities covering about 187 square miles. Organized as a municipal corporation, the District is governed by a nine-member Commission appointed by the communities we serve. The District owns and operates 145 miles of pipe and 18 regional pumping stations that convey approximately 37 million gallons of wastewater to the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant daily. Through the treatment process, we recover valuable resources from the wastewater we receive before returning clean water to the environment. Ensure that the hauled waste that is allowed to enter the plant adheres to the Sewer Use ordinance and won\'t impact plant operations or District adherence to WPDES permit. Enhancing the quality of existing programs and look to develop and expand program offerings consistent with the District strategic priorities. Help translate the vision of a robust hauled waste program into initiatives resulting in actions Maximize relationships and collaboration with customers to deliver solutions that achieve district goals Support the Ecosystem Services Department by fostering an innovative and flexible hauled waste program that compliments source reduction and other programs Essential Job Duties For a complete list of the duties, please check out our career page. Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, but regular trips to the septage receiving site are to be expected. The position requires one to be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time wit the ability to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. The position requires the ability to read and write words and numbers, and it also requires the ability to communicate in person, publicly, or over the phone. The noise level varies from quiet to loud. The position requires the ability to lift and carry or push a cart containing a cooler containing laboratory samples and supplies short distances, which may weigh as much as 25 pounds. The position requires the ability to safely handle septage samples and transport them from the septage site to the District\'s onsite laboratory. The District will provide any necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and the employee is expected to wear it as required. The position will be responsible to respond to and investigate emergency discharge events that could negatively affect the biological treatment process at the District and must possess a considerable degree of safety awareness. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) year degree in Analytical Chemistry; General, Organic, or Inorganic Chemistry; Water Chemistry; Engineering; Environmental Science; Natural Resources, Water Resources Management; Environmental Health & Safety; Public Health, Biology; or a similar field of study from an accredited college or university AND Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the wastewater field or lab experience or public health with knowledge and experience in developing and administering hauled waste acceptance programs. Possession of a 4-year degree in the above areas may be substituted for 2 years of related experience. Other combinations of education and experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position may be considered.
