Robert Half is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join our client’s team in Madison, WI. This role will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of their network infrastructure in a manufacturing environment. This is a Direct Hire role that will require a hybrid work schedule in Madison.
Job Summary:
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure supporting manufacturing operations. This role requires a strong understanding of networking protocols, network security best practices, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a passion for optimizing network performance and ensuring minimal downtime.
Responsibilities
Network Design and Implementation:
Design and implement network solutions to support manufacturing automation, data acquisition, and control systems.
Configure and deploy network devices, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Develop and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve network issues.
Perform routine network maintenance tasks, including firmware updates, configuration backups, and security patching.
Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, including wired and wireless networks, and industrial protocols.
Respond to network outages and provide timely resolution to minimize production downtime.
Network Security:
Implement and maintain network security measures to protect manufacturing systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
Configure and manage firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPNs.
Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans.
Ensure compliance with industry security standards and regulations.
Industrial Networking:
Configure and troubleshoot industrial network protocols, such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, and OPC UA.
Integrate network devices with industrial control systems (ICS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Work with OT teams to support and optimize industrial network performance.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, OT, and engineering, to support manufacturing operations.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on network performance and project status.
Provide technical support and training to end-users.
Participate in on call rotation as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Must have prior experience in network engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, and wireless networking.
Experience with industrial networking protocols and technologies.
Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices from vendors such as Cisco.
Experience with network security best practices and technologies.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience with Virtualization technologies is a plus.
Experience with OT cyber security is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with specific industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs).
Knowledge of automation and control systems.
Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
