What you’ll do (the role)

SUMMARY

As part of the technical team within the Grid department at Lightsource BP, your main mission will be to perform studies and run simulations to verify compliance with grid connection requirements across the countries where the Grid EMEA team is involved.

On the other hand, you will be responsible for implementing the department's objectives in terms of efficiency (time reduction) and automation (creation of procedures and automatisms that avoid errors) of the studies and simulations, as well as creating templates for the standardisation of the reports that the department delivers as a result of its work, helping to create a “seal of quality” within the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Providing technical assistance during project development and ensure the influencing factors by the grid connection are considered.

  • Running electrical power system studies required by Lightsource bp projects.

  • Assisting in the review of studies performed by third parties and providing main points and/or issues suggesting an alternative.

  • Performing grid connection feasibility studies to identify the available capacity and the most techno-economic grid connection option.

  • Ensuring project designs meet all the relevant technical grid code compliance requirements including specific TSO and DNO requirements and standards.

  • Reviewing any network restrictions or curtailment analysis to assess the export constraints over the life span of a specific project.

  • Supporting in the process of hybridisation of installations (with BESS, wind, H2, etc) from the technical point of view regarding Grid Code compliance.

Who we’re looking for

KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong technical knowledge of Photovoltaic Power Plants and Distribution / Transmission Power Systems.

  • Wind Farm and Battery Energy Storage System facilities knowledge (BESS) is beneficial.

  • Strong technical knowledge of European Grid Code (RfG) and other relevant grid connection standards (i.e. G99 in UK).

  • Be able to conduct Grid Compliance Studies including, but not only, Reactive Power Capability, Fault Ride-through, Frequency Control, Voltage Control, Harmonics, Ficker…

  • Strong knowledge of electrical power system software DigSilent PowerFactory.

  • PSCAD, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, IPSA knowledge is beneficial.

  • Strong knowledge of programming languages (specially Python, DPL) and be able to develop procedures and automatisms with them.

  • Knowledge of transient studies including Insulation Coordination, Transformer Energization and TRV analysis, Transformer and cable sizing.

  • Familiar with of UK/EU Distribution and Transmission industry (at least, be aware of the main companies in each country).

  • Familiar with HV connection process, requirements and regulations.

  • Familiar with the TSO/DNO publicly available information systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferably a degree level qualification associated with electrical power systems and/or electrical engineering, but other relative qualifications and supporting working experience would be considered.

  • Candidates with additional qualification in renewable energy (especially PV) would be preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven track record & experienced in a similar role for at least 3-5 years.

  • Candidates with experience of working directly for DNOs/TSOs and/or power system consultancies will be preferred.

  • Proven track record & experience with DigSilent PowerFactory and Python.
