As a(n) Manufacturing Technology Operations Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Leads planning and execution of forward-looking yield, productivity, and commercialization projects with direct alignment and partnership with a grouping of 3M manufacturing plants.
Implements strategies and improvements at the plant level to deliver short- and long-term process capability and personnel development, while working closely with a global manufacturing technology operations team to collaborate and replicate best in class solutions.
Determines what manufacturing technology engineering skillsets are necessary to take ownership of priority projects and the value of doing so, works directly with global manufacturing technology operations and platform teams to allocate and lead manufacturing technology engineers and their associated projects.
Where appropriate, develops project plans for plant process engineers, connects them with experienced manufacturing technology engineers to both train and develop process engineers and to accelerate execution of projects/improvements.
Understands common and priority process capability gaps within plants and across plants, pro-actively creates manufacturing technology strategies and priority programs/projects, and leads cross functional teams to develop new manufacturing technology solutions which drive yield and/or productivity of existing assets and products.
Works with cross functional team to ensure new products are commercialized and new assets are installed in the plant with robust manufacturing capability, setting the plant up for success at product launch.
Understands, creates strategies, and works with cross functional teams to optimize asset utilization across factories, by cross qualifying, consolidating, or investing in optimal processing footprint
Provide leadership to internal manufacturing technology operations by having the opportunity to own strategies and execution of global manufacturing technology engineering people development (health of the organization, development planning, promotion processes and reviews, recruiting), planning (strategic planning, operational planning, technology planning), execution (project cadence and management, metric development and reporting, escalation protocols), and communication (global and local communications, advertising/marketing manufacturing technology efforts).
Serve as a member of the global manufacturing technology operations leadership team, as well as a member of the manufacturing operations leadership team associated with your grouping of plants, working directly with operations leadership from plant to executive level.
Continuously develops and expands their own expertise, network, leadership, and influence through close collaboration with a high performing global manufacturing technology organization and nearly all functional roles and organizational levels across 3M, from plant operations to corporate labs and from process technicians to T7s and executive leadership.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Eight (8) years of manufacturing operations experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Five (5) years of team management and/or program leadership experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Five (5) years of manufacturing technology experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Five (5) years of demonstrated improvement methodology expertise (lean, DMAIC,…)
Skills include… proven track record of developing high performing teams, excellent communication skills, and delivering consistent positive results.
