ROLE
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Metallurgist are conducting analysis on materials using a variety of methodologies. Metallurgists may examine a material’s structure using various techniques including optical and electron microscopes. Metallurgists also conduct tests to determine the cause of failures of different materials and components, and also develop test procedures to determine interaction between different materials and different environments.
Duties and responsibilities
Perform test and failure analysis with full data gathering, interpretation and report writing
Train and supervise junior levels in Metallurgy.
Consult with customers to determine the type of analysis required, obtain background information, and supply quotes for services to be performed
Consult with engineers in other divisions of ATS, including Forensics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, and Dimensional Inspection
Perform regular calibrations of lab equipment
Update chemical and equipment inventories
Assist with safety and quality audits
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience:
B. S. in Engineering or Physical Science
5 years’ experience with Failure Analysis
7 years’ experience in a metallurgical laboratory environment
Necessary Skills:
Analytical Skills
Math and science skills
Problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedures.
