DuPont Semiconductor Technologies, Lithography (ST Litho) R&D group within Electronics & Industrial (E&I) Business has an R&D Scale-Up Scientist/Engineer opening in Marlborough, MA .

The R&D Scale-Up Scientist/Engineer is responsible for developing raw materials, products, and process scale up of small molecules and polymers used in lithographic applications. This will include both new product innovation and optimization of product lines to capture new growth opportunities.

The successful candidates will work closely with R&D teams, formulations teams, development engineering, analytical teams, and raw material suppliers for internal and external scale-up and manufacturing of new raw materials used in advanced lithographic applications.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal R&D teams, scale-up team, analytical teams, and external raw material suppliers to develop innovative approaches to new raw material synthesis, characterization, and processing for advanced lithographic materials.

  • Work closely with R&D teams to develop an internal process from laboratory scale to medium scale for small molecules and polymers used in lithographic applications.

  • Work closely with R&D and/or scale-up team to transfer technology scale-up packages to raw material suppliers for high-volume manufacturing and validate their processes and analytical characterizations.

  • Work with R&D, analytical, and manufacturing teams, as well as external suppliers to implement key analytical characterization techniques for new incoming raw material testing to establish quality control requirements, effectively characterize products, improve manufacturing capability and product cost, and ensure final product quality.

  • Collaborate seamlessly with R&D, development engineering, supply chain, quality, marketing, sales, and manufacturing teams in problem solving, identifying, and developing improvement plans, and performing root cause analyses.

  • Define, direct, and/or perform process investigations as needed to ensure success of process change notifications (PCNs) of products or processes.

  • Design and analyze accelerated shelf-life studies.

  • Develop an understanding of lithographic processes.

  • Represent the company during interactions with customers and suppliers regarding raw material quality.

  • Communicate results and progress to technical teams, management, and business leadership through written reports and oral presentations.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplines; or Masters in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplines with 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Be a team player. Demonstrate a collaborative R&D mindset and ability to work well in and/or lead a cross-functional environment, building strong relationships and driving results.

  • Background in organic/polymer chemistry with proven record in organic synthesis, material development, and analytical characterization.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to make data driven decisions and actionable recommendations, implement solutions, and track progress.

  • Familiarity with a variety of analytical techniques, such as NMR, GPC, GC, HP/UPLC, MS, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, etc.

  • Project management skills and ability to execute complex projects and navigate multiple priorities.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and driven to succeed.

  • Experience with process chemistry is a plus.

  • Experience with raw material supplier management is a plus.
