About the Job
In this role, the Transplant Technical Specialist performs and supervise a wide range of cell therapy processing including freezing, thawing and minimal manipulation of cell products. Furthermore, in collaboration with the CIBMTR clinical data, is responsible to cross trained laboratory personnel on CIBMTR data entries to meet CPI requirements. This role involves advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and problem-solving, as well as instructing other laboratory staff on BMT processing daily operations. The Transplant Technical specialist, collaborate with the BMT team to maximize workflow and ensure cellular therapy products meet FDA, NMDP and the Foundation on the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) standards and guidelines. * Experience with waived, moderate, and high complexity testing in a "clinical" laboratory setting through education or work experience required** Overseeing Bone Marrow Transplant processing lab.
Here's what you'll do
Performs cellular processing of moderate and/or high complexity, including labelling and processing of cell products (freezing and thawing of cells, plasma/red blood cell depletion, cell separation, packaging and shipping), maintenance of chain of custody and chain of identity, collaboration with the clinical team and transport of products in accordance with government guidelines and FACT standards
Coordinates and supervise lab processing and testing procedures workflow/workload as necessary to ensure timely delivery of cellular therapy products and completion of accurate paperwork and data entry
Ensures appropriate supply and product inventory management, labeling, quarantine.
Lead precise training, orientation and competency assessments of lab personnel by supervising QC - related procedures across the BMT schedule with clinical staff
Lead training of lab personnel for CIBMTR /NMDP and supervise data reporting personnel for CIBMTR, NMDP, managing all aspects of study related requests to meet CPI requirements to meet compliance.
Maintain laboratory quality assurance programs by revising and developing new procedures (SOPs) to enhance laboratory efficiency and patient care in accordance with FACT requirements. Furthermore, develop procedures for processing and testing for various IRB approved clinical studies.
Performs troubleshooting as needed. Uses problem solving skills when assessing cellular therapy product analysis to identify causes for unexpected product criteria.
Provide input and work with the BMT Processing Facility Director and the Program Director on determining and implementing future direction of the Facility.
Assists in gathering data for validations, and with guidance, assists in data analysis.
Assists with gathering data for research activities and coordinating communication to processing, research and clinical staff.
Coordinates and assist onboarding of new cell therapy products and clinical trials.
Enters charges and understands the impact of cell processing activities on billing and submission of credits and charges.
Actively involved on BMT Processing QC quarterly audits.

Bachelor's Degree
3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Lead Experience: 3-5 years of healthcare or related science or healthcare field
Specific Degree(s): Medical Lab Science/Technologist Program or related science degree
Licensure/Certifications:
Preferred
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP MLS) or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist (ASCP AMT)

Pay Range: $33.00 – $48.00 per hour
Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
