Pharmacy Tech Trainee

Program Length: 13 weeks of onsite didactic and hands-on experience

Purpose of Program: Train individuals on all aspects of pharmacy such that successful participants will gain experience and knowledge to prepare them for the PTCB certification exam and to then be eligible for employment as a certified pharmacy technician.

What you’ll do:

While studying towards certification, within limits of current training, and under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and general supervision of a Licensed Technician, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will:

  • Learn how to prepare medication orders, including both sterile and non-sterile compounds. processing physician medication orders to ensure medications are promptly, accurately, and safely delivered.

  • Ensure all work meets regulatory compliance standards as related to the Pharmacy, Pharmacy Automation, Billing, and Inventory, USP 795 / 797.

  • Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.

What you’ll need for this job:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Upon start of program, must be enrolled and maintain enrollment in Trinity Health’s ASHP Pharmacy Technician training program.

Licensure:

  • Application for temporary IL Pharmacy Tech license upon start of program

  • Full IL Pharmacy Tech licensure upon completion of the program

  • Pharmacy Tech Trainee will be required to complete the 500 hours of program training and obtain PTCB certification within 180 days of hire.

Skills:

  • Basic aptitude for 8th grade math along with good written and verbal communication will be assessed at the initial interview.

Technology:

  • Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

  • Capable of self-motivated and independent study.

Communication:

  • Ability to deal with people at all levels and skills in various situations in a courteous and tactful manner following the Trinity Health Core Values.

Pa y Range: $17.30 - $26.81 per hour

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
