::: {bind="class: uniqueWrapperClass"} ::: {bind=" class: customizationParams.commonParams.cssClass, attr: { id: customizationParams.commonParams.cssId }, customStyles: customizationParams.commonParams, "}  Oversee the complete operation and performance of the delivery of hemodialysis treatment and care within state and federal regulations.  Using professional nursing knowledge, critical thinking skills and dialysis experience to act as a resource to staff, physicians, and physician's assistants. Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision RN-1, Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, uses the nursing process to safely coordinate total patient care and education for an assigned number of patients. At all times, patient assignments will be determined by each department's patient census and current staffing levels required for the overall patient care which are reviewed shift-to-shift.  As determined by the Nurse Manager, the nurse will be assigned up to 40 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, and may rotate after hours shift, weekends and Holidays according to the needs of the unit and staff flexed according to census unit volume. The nurse is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department, organization, and the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. The RN will be responsible for assisting with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to unit. Must be able to work and relate in a professional and non-defensive manner with peers, providers, mid-level providers, administration, patients, and visitors.  Will be responsible to document total care given, review and maintain patient medical record per policy, and assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system. The RN will demonstrate the responsibility for the assessing, monitoring and management of patients, developing and initiating a plan of care, administering medication and treatments as prescribed, collaborating with teams for patient care, ordering, evaluating, and performing diagnostic test ( i.e. hemodialysis, stool, sputum, urine), reviewing and interpreting the results of the test performed, conducting physical examinations  (head to toe assessment)  at the beginning of their shift to assess the overall health of their patients. Monitoring patients' health record and any relevant symptoms, carefully checking patients' records to ensure the correct medication dosages are listed; Monitoring IV lines, access lines and ensuring lines are changed regularly per policy, monitoring patients' vital signs, assessing and recording nonverbal cues, providing support, education, and advice to patient to make sure they feel cared for, listened to, and comforted when needed. The nurse will demonstrate knowledge and must be able to conduct head to toe assessments, record detailed medical history and symptoms, demonstrate knowledge of operating medical equipment (i.e. stethoscope, glucometers, pulse oximeters, thermometer, blood pressure machines, IV pumps, code carts, suction, emergency equipment, dialysis pumps, wound drainage systems, ventilation equipment, etc.). The nurse will demonstrate knowledge in educating patients about their illness, their treatments and medications by providing clear instruction on how they can manage their symptoms (i.e. explain what type med, why they are taking the med, the side effects of meds, the importance of follow up appointments, any rehab, and things to do at home to improve and prevent readmission). The nurse must ensure the safety of their patients, advocate for their patients by taking the time to actively listen to their concerns and encouraging the patient to ask questions, respecting their wishes, and by communicating what the patient wants with family and other team members while also providing emotional support to both patient and family.  Nurses are responsible to ensure that basic care needs are completed and/or assist with basic needs as indicated (baths, turning, cleaning, feeding, hygiene related activities, provide emotional support, administer medications, and track vitals. The nurse is to assist with ordering supplies/ inventory. The nurse reviews, records, and reports any irregularities/problems. Maintains clinical competence by continually learning to perform any job duty within the scope of RN practice. Maintains knowledge about and ensures delivery of nursing care at or above standards of practice for nursing. Administers medication safely.  Demonstrates knowledge of and administers all medications according to provider's order and hospital policy adhering to the 6 rights of medication administration: (i.e. Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Time (be aware of dosing frequency, schedule/med log, set an alarm, clearly communicate), Right Route, Right Documentation), Demonstrates knowledge of high risk and critical medications (i.e. Insulin, Potassium K-riders, Vancomycin Peak / trough, Heparin, Coumadin, knowledge of timeframe for lab drawn for indicated meds i.e. PT, PTT etc.). Documents adverse drug reactions and reports per departmental and pharmacy policy. Performs IV therapy while demonstrating skill and accuracy per provider's order and hospital policy. Monitors and documents the patient's level of consciousness, demonstrates knowledge, and performs wound and line care according to hospital protocol/policy. Promotes unit and organizational philosophy and goals; involves staff in the development of unit goals. Supports and assists with staffing/scheduling policies to meet unit needs.
