Salary Grade: NC07 / Salary Range: $35,984.00 - $62,971.00 - All recommended salaries are based on each applicant’s qualifying education and related experience in combination with the position’s budgeted salary. The maximum hiring rate for this position is $57,047.
This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position located in the Matthews B Resident Engineer’s Office. This position supports and assists higher level technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, testing, NPDES inspections and construction traffic control. Position will also perform entry-level technical work involving sampling of materials and basic inspection duties to determine adherence to codes/standards by both NCDOT and private contractors. Must be proficient in detailed record keeping. Daily duties will include, but are not limited to: writing diaries and reports on project operations, completing various material reports, documenting pay records, performing construction calculations, and computer/iPad entry of reports/data. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary.

Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Additional Expectations:
The employee must apply the Department’s safety program to operations. The ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and traversing rough/uneven terrain is needed. The employee must be able to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing. The employee will need to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. The employee must have proficiency using computers and electronic tablets in the record keeping of field data. A general knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred. The employee must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing. Safety toe shoes are required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
