Conveyor Systems Engineer
Job Description
Manage the controls system projects through its various stages from quotation to final customer acceptance. Attend discussions with customers and mechanical engineering regarding their expectations and preferences. Develop costs for equipment types and methods including sizing control panels, I/O, and electrical service. Conduct on-site inspections and meetings with plant engineering and maintenance teams.
Responsibilities
Lay out and create electrical drawing packages in accordance with existing standards and customer specifications.
Create controls and device communication schemes and layouts.
Develop control panels' Bill of Materials, layouts, and schematics.
Specify and acquire all required parts and materials.
Oversee panel construction and perform test checks upon completion.
Develop programs for PLCs and Safety PLCs. Must be able to program PLCs.
Create required HMI screens, often based on customer's similar equipment.
Coordinate with installation department, field electrical personnel, and customer regarding installation requirements.
Assist with installation on-site when possible.
Travel as required throughout the project duration, including meetings, on-site inspections, installation, and commissioning.
Provide required documentation for control systems, schematics, manuals, and training.
Specify electrical purchased parts.
Develop and commission PLC programs.
Provide on-site direction of electrical aspects of installation.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred. Experience may be substituted.
5+ years of experience
PLC Programming (Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, or similar systems)
Experience taking mechanical layouts and designing all control elements, including ordering sensors, safety design, control panels, and commissioning on-site
Experience with conveyors or similar industries such as automotive, packaging, or logistics
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of industry standards and electrical codes
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
Work Environment
The role involves working in both office and shop settings with travel required. Travel includes customer meetings, on-site inspections, installation, and commissioning activities.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
