HNTB CEI Inspector II - MEP in Miami, Florida

What We're Looking For

The South Dade Transit Operations Center Corridor (Homestead) is a new construction DTPW Bus Facility. This facility will be used to Operate and Maintain the new 100 Bus electric fleet. HNTB has been contracted as the CEI to oversee the construction of this facility. We are looking for an experienced MEP Inspector to assist us in this task.

This opportunity entails being responsible for providing daily inspection of multiple, routine activities within a given discipline/trade performed by contractor in order to monitor the project’s compliance with plans, specifications, and other contract provisions. Maintains daily logs of inspection work which is assigned and reviews discrepancies or changes with Field Engineer. Work is generally limited to smaller, standard, less complex projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.

  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform standard mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date.

  • Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.

  • Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 3 years of construction related experience.

  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Direct the day-to-day coordination of all trade’s contractors and their sub-contractors to ensure they turn out high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule

  • Develop, document and communicate the work plan regarding changes made in the field

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to be able to plan ahead and anticipate potential problems before they arise

  • Obtain or verify that the subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes

  • Act as primary safety representative in the field and enforce quality control policies

  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions etc. by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment

  • Maintain daily reports and documentation using Procore

  • Create, manage and adhere to update the project schedule: create and implement contingency plans when necessary

  • Communicate schedule status, updates and changes to Project Team and Trade Contractors

  • Plan, coordinate and manage jobsite logistics

  • Oversee project quality plan and implement necessary changes

  • Conformance to the project budget and be in compliance with the plans and specifications of the project.

  • Enforce strict safety practices, site cleanliness and overall production.

  • Respond to RFI’s and/or submittals

  • Review monthly invoices from subcontractors

  • Attend meetings with clients/inspectors

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with Elevator and Escalator inspections including safety compliance, operational assessment, visual inspections, and functional testing.

  • Preferred experience in plumbing installation including pumps, piping, ducts, equipment, controls, vaults and associated works both in building construction and underground piping.

  • Knowledge and experience with inspection of fire sprinkler systems.

  • Knowledge and experience with Ventilation Systems (HVAC)
