Dr. Priyamvada Rai and Dr. Marijo Bilusic at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center have an exciting opportunity for a full time Postdoctoral Associate.

SUMMARY

This individual will work in a multidisciplinary team on projects at the interface of obesity, metabolism, oxidative stress and prostate cancer. This research focus has strong mechanistic as well as translational components intended to fuel future investigator-initiated clinical trials.

CORE FUNCTIONS

The individual hired must be able to function independently, to design and perform routine and complex laboratory experiments, to present results at scientific meetings, and to prepare manuscripts for publication in refereed journals.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

· Work relatively independently under the mentorship of Dr. Rai in the basic research endeavors of the project and serve as a liaison for translational approaches under Dr. Bilusic’s guidance.

· Perform routine and complex laboratory experiments, including the planning and conducting of projects involving molecular / cell biology, metabolomics, and mouse tumor models with oversight from the PI

· Carry out experimental protocols with appropriate technical rigor and accuracy, interpret experimental data, carry out required statistical analysis, and maintain accurate records

· Stay informed by reading technical journal and publications and search literature for references to technical problems

· Assist in the preparation of data and figures for publication in refereed journals and grant applications

· Generate cohesive drafts of manuscripts and abstracts

· Present data in laboratory meetings and scientific meetings

· Provide training and mentoring to graduate students and work cooperatively with other lab members and with scientific collaborators

· Job tasks may require working outside of regular business hours occasionally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

· Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, cell biology, cancer biology or a related life science field with a strong publication record.

Experience:

· Prior experience in cancer research, competence with basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques (including cell culture), and hands-on expertise with mouse models is required.

· Prior experience in cancer models of obesity and/or expertise in metabolomics/lipidomics is strongly preferred.

· Familiarity with bioinformatics and transcriptomics is desirable.

· Candidates who already reside in the country are preferred.

· A short but specific statement as to how the candidate’s skillset and interests can contribute to the proposed research area should be included as part of the application.
