GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:

The Auto Body Painter is responsible for the proper preparation of various surfaces for paint application on vehicle parts and accessories and applying base and clear coats or hydro graphic printing. The Auto Body Painter is responsible for production flow to meet performance goals and maintaining the high-level quality that customers expect from our products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, prep, and inspect painting equipment prior to use.
  • Sand, clean, and prep parts and/or accessories for paint and inspect each prior to painting.
  • Mix coatings with reducer and catalyst at correct mixtures, using color mixture equipment.
  • Spray primers/sealers/coatings with gravity feed HVLP spray guns
  • Mix & apply color and clear coating with spray equipment to meet coverage and gloss standards.
  • Check wet film mil thickness with wet mil gauge.
  • Check for runs, sags, or dry spots to ensure quality finish. Correct any errors in applications.
  • Troubleshoot any imperfections during paint application.
  • Buff, polish or otherwise prepare finished pieces for shipment.
  • Maintain equipment to meet operation standards, but not including repair of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment according to established guidelines and quality standards.
  • Maintain paint booth cleanliness and filter changes and log sheets.
  • Ensure hazardous waste is handled properly and placed in proper containers.
  • Cross train in other areas of the manufacturing facility as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with internal customers including the Product Inspector regarding product quality and other issues. Listen to and implement any feasible feedback internal customers may provide to ensure their expectations are being met.
  • Maintain and continually update data for Continuous Improvement efforts, team job performance measures, and individual performance measures.
  • Properly shut down and organize the working area at the end of each day.
  • Communicate to appropriate individuals when tools and supplies need to be ordered.
  • Other duties as assigned by Production Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year certification from college or technical school; or 3+ years related painter experience in an automotive or manufacturing/industrial setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Painter certification a plus
  • Strong arm, hand, and finger dexterity with demonstrated physical capacity to reach, handle, finger, and feel.
  • Attentive to detail, quality focused and willingness to learn and drive processes.
  • Great organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be flexible to change.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to determine and mix paint formulars according to color code.

*Hourly rate is commensurate with experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Auto Body Painter is regularly subject to bending, squatting, pushing, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., crawling, and working in otherwise awkward positions. The Auto Body Painter must also possess the ability to manipulate his/her fingers, hands, and wrists in repetitive motion(s). Must be able to pass respirator fit test.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

The Auto Body Painter works in a well-lighted environment but is subject to occasional high decibel sounds associated with production and paint fumes also associated with production. Subject to extreme repetitive motion. Other duties include working with tools and/or machinery and other items that have very sharp edges, may be under high levels of pressure or are extremely hot.
