The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee College of Health Professions & Sciences (https://uwm.edu/health-professions-sciences/) offers a wide array of health-related academic programs in biomedical sciences, health care administration, nursing, and rehabilitation sciences serving 2300+ students. Job Summary

The Graduate Advisor position is a 12-month, non-teaching, probationary leading to indefinite academic staff position. The position manages the administrative activities of graduate degree program(s) and/or certificate(s). Performs activities which include recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, academic advising, monitoring of progress towards the degree, course and/or enrollment management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, funding, course and/or program assessment, and academic program review. Specifically, this position will focus on the Master of Nursing (MN) program. The goal is to double admissions and move to twice a year admission.

The person in this position functions with independent thinking, creative planning and decision making. Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, discretion, and initiative are essential because of the significant interaction with students, faculty and staff from the college and campus. Superb organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, excellent follow-through, demonstrated ability to work independently and with a collaborative team, and an aptitude for detail-oriented tasks are essential.

Estimated percentage of time: 50% advising; 25% recruiting; 25% administration/management

Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process. Please note, at this time, the position is open only to current UW Milwaukee employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degree must be granted by date of hire).

  • Evidence of excellent written communication skills and attention to detail (based on evaluation of submitted application materials).

  • Prior work experience working with college students.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.

  • Experience in recruiting and/or advising students in higher education.

  • Prior experience giving public presentations.

  • Familiarity with UWM’s (or UW System) academic programs, admission requirements, University policies and procedures.

  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural, educational, and financial backgrounds.

    Target Salary Range This is a full-time position. The target hiring range is $55,000-$61,000 per year. Final salary offers contingent upon skills, knowledge, and abilities as demonstrated throughout the selection process.
