MCW: SARGEANT HEALTH CENTER Lab Technician I in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Purpose We are looking for a motivated, independent, and enthusiastic applicant to provide technical support for a variety of neuroscience research projects in the Stucky Lab through animal husbandry, genotyping and record maintenance. We have multiple exciting, federally-funded (NIH) projects that investigate mechanisms that underly somatosensation and pain using transgenic mouse and rat models. The candidate will provide critical foundational support for the laboratory by performing the following tasks: genotyping, mouse and rat husbandry and keeping accurate records electronically and on cage cards. Effective communication is expected between the candidate and the lab PI and team members in either one-on-one settings or in lab meetings. Primary Functions: Maintain rodent colony: assist with breeding, animal care and culling of animals; genotype offspring; maintain careful records using web-based colony maintenance software. Train junior lab personnel and collaborators in dissection and culturing skills and laboratory record keeping. Communicate clearly and timely with the lab PI and other researchers about animal needs, animal line production for specific experiments Attend laboratory functions and meetings throughout the week including new candidate interviews, department seminars, journal clubs, and project specific group meetings. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Basic wet lab abilities such as pipetting, polymerase chain reaction, buffer calculations, dissection, microscope use, basic math, data analysis, and communication skills. Previous experience with animal husbandry and/or behavioral testing is desirable. Candidates should have a high attention to detail and be well organized. We are looking for a candidate who is teachable and can work well in a collaborative group setting. Preferred Schedule: Variable Position Requirements: Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma Minimum Required Experience: No experience required Preferred Education: Current undergrad in biomedical science field of study preferred Preferred Experience: Prefererence for wet lab experience in undergraduate institute etc. Field: Neuroscience, immunology, molecular biology, or related field, although this is not required.
