SWCA ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANTS Associate Project Manager - Renewables & Transmission in Minneapolis, Minnesota
About the opportunity SWCA Environmental Consultants is actively seeking an Associate Project Manager - Renewables & Transmission with strong interpersonal skills and experience in project management and permitting to join our renewable energy team. Projects will be located primarily in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, with opportunities to work on projects in Wisconsin, Iowa, and other nearby states. This individual will work with a dynamic and company-wide team to successfully drive projects throughout all phases, from early planning and permitting through construction. The ideal candidate will possess environmental consulting and project management experience, preferably with specific knowledge of renewable energy generation. This position can be hired at the following levels: Project Manager - Typically with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and expertise. Associate Project Manager - Typically with at minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and expertise. SWCA is looking for the right candidate to take on existing and future projects and help build our presence throughout the North region. The position is based out of our Minneapolis, MN office. Highly qualified remote candidates in Minnesota, the Dakotas, or nearby states would also be considered. This is a regular (with benefits), salaried, full-time position. We appreciate the time and effort invested by all applicants and will carefully consider each submission. What you will accomplish The job responsibilities below are for an Associate Project Manager. Project manager responsibilities would include more leadership roles for complex, multi-disciplinary projects. Lead (or help lead), oversee, and execute the management of permitting efforts for renewable energyand transmissionprojectsof the appropriate size and complexity. Foster a positive, collaborative working environment among project team members. Work closely with project teams across all SWCA offices to navigate permitting challenges and meet client needs. Help take initiative and resolve issues to assure our client's needs are met effectively. Help lead and advise on the development of permitting strategies, provide QA/QC of work processes and deliverables, and lead teams completing technical studies that support permitting efforts. Manage or help manage projects that includeNEPA and/or state-specific environmental review process compliance,biological resource assessments, constraints analyses, state and federal Endangered Species Act consultations, Clean Water Act Section 404 and Section 401 permitting, and cultural resources studies. Supervise, mentor, and provide project-specific technical support to junior staff. Work with SWCA's accounting department to review invoices, expenditures, and project audits for projects and tasks. Work closely with SWCA's resource scientists, environmental planners, team leads, and directors throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values. Takes responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards. Experience and qualifications for success Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in planning, biology, environmental science, natural resources management, archaeology, anthropology, geology, or a related field required. Five (5) years of combined experience in project management; environmental consulting; or ecological, archaeological, or geographical studies. Two (2) years of project management experience. Strong working knowledge of federal (e.g., NEPA, National Historic Pres rvation Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act) and state laws governing resource management. Demonstrated experience with renewable energy and transmission projects and with federal agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and with state and local agencies. Experience with supervising staff and project teams. Experience and ability to manage projects in diverse settings and with changing requirements. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment and desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere. Preferred qualifications: Seven (7) years of combined experience in project management; environmental consulting; or ecological, archaeological, or geographical studies. Four (4) years of project management experience. Experience with public utilities commissions.
