Primary Objective: The ICPOET program aims to attract individuals interested in transitioning to a career in law enforcement. The University of Minnesota Police Department will hire applicants as police trainees and send them to Hennepin Technical College to complete the Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) in early 2025. Participants are paid and receive benefits while attending. Program Details: * Trainees will work full-time, earning an hourly wage ($25-27 per hour), and attend 40 hours per week of coursework and training for approximately 22 weeks. * The University covers all course fees and equipment costs. * After completing the program and passing the police officer licensing exam, trainees will become probationary sworn police officers. Essential Functions: * Participate and pass all coursework in the ICPOET program. * Maintain physical conditioning for the skills component of training. * Achieve POST licensure eligibility. * Commit to at least two years of service as a police officer for the University of Minnesota Police Department following successful completion of the POST licensing Exam and appointment as a police officer. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * A 2- or 4-year degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field. * Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. * Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one. * No felony convictions. * Must not have completed a MN Skills program or taken the MN POST exam. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with diverse communities or culturally diverse populations. * Priority given to candidates with cultural competency skills and community engagement experience.
