Summary

This position will be responsible for providing support to the construction team.. This person will also assist the Safety Department in an effort to enforce the corporate safety and health policies and procedures. In addition to the project site safety responsibilities, they shall participate in and complete all tasks assigned to them by the Safety Department, Project Manager, and Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Safety Compliance:

  • Reviews each Subcontractor’s Safety Plan and safety data sheets to ensure that it meets or exceeds the project Safety Program

  • requirements.

  • Conducts monthly safety overview meetings.

  • Investigates all accidents and incidents and generate proper reports.

  • Ensures that each Subcontractor designates a Safety Representative that is properly trained in OSHA standards.

  • Records, notifies, and prepares written reports of any violations or unsafe practices to Subcontractors for immediate corrective actions.

  • Stops all work as soon as any violations or unsafe practices are reported.

  • Assists Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing proper fire prevention, evacuation, and fire control procedures.

  • Conducts regular inspections of fire extinguisher, first aid stations, and eye wash stations.

Site Inspections/ Meetings:

  • Attends Project Staff Meetings to brief the staff of safety issues on the project and to keep staff informed of the progress of the job.

  • Conducts daily jobsite and work area inspections.

  • Conducts formal daily jobsite inspections and complete the safety checklist noting safety violations and corrective actions.

  • Attends all initial meetings with the project staff and subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety Program.

  • Coordinates and conducts daily KA stretching and flexibility program.

  • Conducts Tool Box Talks on a weekly basis for onsite KA staff.

Training and Education:

  • Establishes and conducts jobsite orientation for every new employee for the project, administers and records new employee participation in the orientation program, and issues identification to those employees completing the training.

  • Ensures that Subcontractors are conducting the proper training requirements as per the Occupational Safety & Health

  • Administration (OSHA) standards. If necessary, facilitate training for site personnel for compliance with Federal and State standards.

  • Attends Owner meetings and offer input and guidance on safety related issues.

  • Establishes and conducts weekly safety meetings with subcontractor representatives.

Reporting:

  • Determines corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Writes job hazard analysis for Kraus-Anderson (KA) activities and collect/review Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for subcontractors

  • Assists in the development and enforce the Project Safety Program and corporate Safety and Health Program.

  • Manages hot work permits for Kraus-Anderson and Subcontractors from issuance to closing.

  • Reviews areas on initial and periodic basis.

  • Follows up with Subcontractors and owner’s security guards for fire watch.

  • Conducts man hour reporting for site on a daily basis and reports twice per week.

  • Administers the requirements for the confined space entry program for the site which may include issuing permits, area pre-review, inspections, subcontractor programs and closeout.

  • Administers the requirements for the lockout-tag out program for the site which would include area pre-review, inspections, and subcontractor programs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5-7 years’ experience within the Construction industry

  • Industrial Hygiene experience required

  • Excellent knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques

  • Knowledge of computer programs (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Four year degree in Safety & Health or related field

Other:

  • Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and ability to adhere to KA’s motor vehicle policy.

  • Limited travel

  • This role is a safety-sensitive role for purposes of drug, cannabis and alcohol testing

  • Frequently sits, stands and talks.

  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.

  • Vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must work and climb on a jobsite to review or inspect work progress.

  • Ability to maneuver on ladders and scaffolding, walk through sand or mud, climb on and around vehicles and construction equipment

Salary Range: $85,000 to $115,000 annually, plus company vehicle and discretionary incentive program.

Pay is based on many factors including but not limited to education, skill, experience, training, certifications, and other business needs.
