The primary purpose of this position is to aid lab members in performing routine techniques, maintaining lab equipment, and perform any other necessary day-to-day functions in the lab. The job will focus on studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the development of pulmonary hypertension and presenting the data in weekly lab meetings, as well as contributing to articles and grant proposals. Specifically, the position will involve isolating pulmonary vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells from humans and animals with pulmonary hypertension, generate research data using basic lab techniques and work with others in the lab to support the pre-clinical animal studies. This position is temporary for one year with the possibility for renewal. Focus of Job Responsibilities Support - 60% Isolate pulmonary vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells from human and animal specimens. Work with others in the lab to help with the animal experiments (i.e., injections, tissue collection, slide sectioning, genotyping etc.). Research- 30% Use standard molecular biological and cell-based assays to generate the data to contribute to the lab ongoing research projects. Data analysis, presentation of findings at the lab meetings. Lab maintenance - 10% Organizing supplies, deliveries, materials or equipment and setting-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations; may perform minor equipment maintenance. Operating laboratory and experimental equipment such as microscopes, fluorescent microscopes, centrifuges, analytical balances, cell incubators, cell/tissue storage tank; making minor repairs and makes arrangements for major repairs to be performed. Cleaning glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keeping laboratory area clean. Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years Preferred Qualifications Previous lab experience including basic laboratory techniques (cell culture, PCR, Western blot, cell-based assays etc.). Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment. Ability to use software for statistics such as EXCEL, SigmaPlot, GraphPad, Prism, RedCap.
