Burns & McDonnell Systems Integration Engineer - Aviation & Federal (Minneapolis) in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota

The System Integration Engineer will perform work associated with designing control panels, programming PLCs, programming graphics interfaces (HMIs) and on-site commissioning support for a variety of aviation projects with a focus on jet fuel delivery systems. Other related projects may include federal and government work with support for other company global practices. The Integration Engineer will work in the field, assisting project teams and subcontractors to support the commissioning of associated controls equipment and support subcontractors through troubleshooting.
Core competency will be a focus on ControlLogix and Ignition HMI system integration with a medium industrial network with communication to VFDs and other remote devices.
Major responsibilities include assisting staff and senior level integration team members with the following activities:
Oversight of self-perform or subcontractor installation.
Assess physical installation readiness for commissioning based on design specifications.
Perform testing of cables, pinouts, automation points, etc. using applicable tools
Power on devices using standard panel breaker and rack fuses.
Conduct visual confirmation of successful device turn-up.
Commission site and client application verification according to industry accepted commissioning standards.
Review and update intermediate level as-built documentation for publication to client.
Establish and maintain relationships with client field staff on scope, progress, and return of removed devices.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
Support execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Perform design quality reviews.
Meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or
Bachelor Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or
Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required
Previous experience with integration company projects preferred especially field-based assignments.
Experience with major integration software: RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Ignition, Emerson Cimplicity, Siemens Step7.
Experience with major integration Hardware: PLCs (ControlLogix, Rx3i) VFDs, softstarts and motor buckets preferred.
Industrial Network understanding and best practices
Understanding of common industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, MODBUS TCP/RTU, PROFINET)
Understand how to read ladder logic, structured text, ladder diagrams and one-lines. Be able to design simple control circuits using relay logic preferred.
Understanding of databases (SQL) preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
Interest and experience working in mission-critical environments (military, utility, industrial, transportation, etc.) or related field strongly preferred.
Strong aptitude and interest of learning troubleshooting skills and understanding of electrical and communications systems and industry standards.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad assignments and devise new approaches to problems encountered.
Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.
Additional Physical Qualifications:
Work locations could include office-based or construction jobsites ranging from commercial to heavy industrial environments that include working in adverse climates, and extensive walking, requiring stairs, passenger use of personal hoists, negotiating work areas under construction, climbing permanent and temporary ladders, occasional lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to sit, talk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and bend.
Specific vision abilities required for this job includes: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
Must be able to safely operate motor vehicles.
May at times need to access confined spaces or work locations at elevation requiring utilization of respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, and/or fall protection.
