DUTIES: Work on exciting and engaging large-scale transit and rail projects. Apply engineering principles to a variety of transit and rail projects as well as support technical research, specification development, quantity calculations, field inspection and testing programs. Provide engineering support in preparation of technical specifications for functional, sub system testing, maintenance and training requirements for vehicle, signal, communication, power, or subsystem procurements or overhauls. Perform oversight and witnessing of factory testing prior to approval for shipment; log discrepancies and prepare reports for status of system testing. Monitor field implementation and testing activities for a range of transit and rail assets; support System integration of vehicle, signal, communication, and power systems/subsystems from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance. Utilize your familiarity with transit and rail systems (vehicle, signal, communication, and power) from key suppliers in the market to perform detailed design reviews of product and system submittals while assessing performance and specification compliance for vehicles, signal, communication, and/or power systems. Telecommuting/ Hybrid schedule is allowed.REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, and 3 years of work experience as an electrical engineer on transit/rail projects. Or a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, and 5 years of work experience as an electrical engineer on transit/ rail projects. SPECIFIC SKILLS: Expertise/ knowledge of: Electrical traction (Catenary), Signal, Transmission and Distribution systems of various Rail agencies. Leading projects related to remote terminal unit upgrades. Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), Secondary Train Detection System (STDS) and Positive Train Control (PTC) related design reviews, test procedure and test report reviews. CBTC and STDS field testing, field installations, pre-installation check outs (PICO), commissioning and Cutover or revenue service. Review of project schedule and construction activities. Coordination with multiple stakeholders (client, contractors, subconsultants) at transit agency to ensure appropriate resources are allocated for field testing before software deployment and cutover. Design review of electrical catenary systems, protection systems, control systems, signals systems and Substations and review of technical specifications of the projects and good understanding of manuals for various electrical assets. Troubleshooting, Maintenance and Operation of Electrical Substations and network systems. Functional testing of substation electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, relays etc.) and Commissioning of new or modified system for various projects. Code requirements, for example, NEC, NESC, NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA, etc. that are extensively used in Rail electrical projects and FRA safety regulations.
