Job Title: Field Engineer

Job Description

Prepares schedule of site visits in a workday for all present and active projects. Conducts and coordinates construction site visits and performs observation and inspection services, ensuring that standards are observed, followed, and enforced. Acts as the construction liaison for Engineering and Finance Divisions. Completes and submits reports digitally in accordance with requirements of the Engineering Division. Reviews shop drawings and related cut sheets submitted by contractors for conformance with standards.

Responsibilities

• Implement scheduling service connections with Operations Division when contractor is ready, e.g., residential taps, fire line wet cuts, large diameter domestic service lines.

• Observe contractor’s installation of water service lines within the right-of-way through and including shut off valve. Construction observation includes trench restoration, installation of water service lines on private property, etc.

• Schedule, witness, and observe disinfection and pressure testing with the Water Quality and Operations Divisions.

• Sign off on development projects upon installation of meters to notify the Finance Division when to activate the account for proper billing services.

• Report unauthorized construction activities to the Engineering and Finance Divisions.

• Create a tracking system for unauthorized water usage at project sites.

• Create a notification process to inform the Engineering and Finance Divisions when events occur so that information is properly captured in the water audit program and appropriate fines are issued to contractors.

• GPS newly constructed water assets and features using supplied equipment, i.e., EOS Arrow Positioning and ESRI Field Data Collection. Coordinate this activity with Engineering Division ensuring that the GPS points have been edited and posted to the GIS Enterprise Utility Network.

• Ensure construction issues are resolved in accordance with best practices and while maintaining standards.

• Coordinate field changes with contractors and Engineering Division.

• Review and interpret drawings and specifications.

• During planning and design phases, conduct site investigations to verify design sketches for development projects or in-house design projects.

• Coordinate efforts required to collect data and inventory information for the Backflow Preventer Program in accordance with the Cross Connection Control Program, which conforms with NJDEP requirements. Coordinate the data for database management in the GIS Enterprise Utility Network.

• Coordinate efforts required to collect data and inventory information for private fire pumps. Coordinate the data for database management in the GIS Enterprise Utility Network.

Work Environment

The work environment is a mix of 50% field and 50% office work. Fieldwork is primarily conducted in the summer, while office work is more frequent in the winter. The role involves working in various weather conditions and requires adherence to safety standards. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00
