Description

The Assistant Director of EOF will assist in providing leadership to the EOF Department with a focus on student advising and support. The Assistant Director will coordinate EOF Advisor training and oversee the summer institute and lead EOF assessment efforts, with a focus on student retention and persistence. The Assistant Director will assist with the development of programming, workshops and serve as the liaison to campus partners to deliver a holistic advising experience inclusive of academic, financial, career, and transfer advising.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a structured on-going academic, financial, career, transfer, and personal advisement for assigned EOF student cohort. Monitor and Track EOF students’ academic performance and progress.

  • In the absence of the Director, provide leadership to the EOF Department.

  • Access and use college data management systems to maintain student information, advisement contacts, referrals, and program data, as well as work closely with the Director to complete reports on student advisement, budget management, program accomplishments and areas of improvement, EOF annual report and any other reports as needed.

  • Refer students to appropriate resources both on and off campus.

  • Work closely with the Director to contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of effective strategies to assist with EOF student persistence and retention efforts.

  • Responsible for EOF Advisor training, Advisor follow up, communication with faculty, data tracking, and student issues in need of escalation.

  • Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to aid EOF student cohort in developing and attaining vocational and educational objectives.

  • Develop and facilitate gender-based student empowerment initiatives to support personal development, leadership skill development, and development of academic behaviors that enhance student success.

  • Collect and analyze data each semester to use in the development and facilitation of workshops for students on empowerment, college success, retention, persistence, etc.

  • Assist with recruitment efforts at both on- and off-campus locations; some evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Work collaboratively with personnel in Academic Affairs and across the Enrollment Management and Student Success Division to identify areas to be developed and improved with the EOF student population (e.g., critical thinking, study skills, test-taking, etc.).

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all types of financial aid available to students, and the rules and regulations governing them.

  • Attend training programs and serve on campus-wide committees as required.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Higher Education or a related discipline.

Experience Required:

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated leadership in student services, higher education, or a related field.

  • Direct professional experience with the delivery of college-level academic, financial, career and transfer counseling and advisement.

  • Experience in developing student learning outcomes and assessment.

  • Experience in the development and facilitation of college-level programs and workshops.

  • Experience supporting low-income, probationary, first-generation, and/or non-traditional students

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated competency working effectively with diverse student populations including first generation college students and students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and effectively handle student crisis situations (e.g., death of a loved one, homelessness, depression, etc.).

  • Superior interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to and promote the mission of a comprehensive community college.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of computers and diverse databases.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a productive member of a high-performing team.

  • Experience working with an ethnically diverse population is desirable.

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
