Job Description

Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management. This is a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position within the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Management Department and will start on August 18, 2025.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Teach Human Resource Management courses, such as employee training and development, introductory/advanced human resource management, compensation management, employee benefits, employment law, and staffing, effectively at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.

  • Deliver courses in multiple formats, times, and locations, including face to face and online formats, daytime and evening sections, and at various locations throughout the Twin Cities area.

  • Lead course/curriculum development and assessment in Human Resource Management.

  • Actively engage in scholarly research or creative achievement.

  • Actively engage in professional development, continuing preparation, and study. • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.

  • Actively engage in service to the college, university and community.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education that includes the skills and abilities to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Human Resource Management (or a closely related field) from a regionally accredited institution. ABDs will be given due consideration, but the terminal degree is required by the time of employment (August 2025).

  • Past experience teaching HRM courses (noted in the job responsibilities above) at the university (higher education) level, with a record of excellence in teaching evaluations.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach multiple courses in the HRM curriculum, including employee training and development, introductory/advanced human resource management, compensation management, employee benefits, employment law, and/or staffing.

  • A record of active scholarly work or development in the form of papers, publications, or conference presentations.

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) to effectively interact with a variety of people and groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Excellent reputation working with students and providing trusted guidance to young adults.

Preferred Qualification

  • Proficiency in teaching three or more different courses in the HRM curriculum, including employee training and development, introductory/advanced human resource management, compensation management, employee benefits, employment law, and/or staffing.

  • Evidence of outstanding research or scholarly accomplishments.

  • Evidence of ongoing outstanding service.

  • Professional experience and/or professional certification(s) related to Human Resource Management.

  • Experience advising traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. • Demonstrated ability to lead course/curriculum development in Human Resource Management.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in assessment/accreditation.

  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate a diversity and inclusion lens into teaching.

  • Graduate level degree(s) from a regionally accredited business school.

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D. or DBA) from an AACSB or equivalently accredited school.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
