POSITION SUMMARY:\ The role of the Civil Engineer Plans Examiner is to support the development community from project conception through completion. Their principal function is to review civil engineering plans associated with various development projects to ensure compliance with City codes, ordinances, and development standards and to shepherd the permitting process from start to finish. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Assistant City Engineer of Development, but considerable leeway is granted for exercising independent judgment and initiative. The position demands an organized and detail-oriented approach and the ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with other team members, city employees, the development community, and the general public.\ \ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\ Provides support to and communicates with architects, developers, engineers, inspectors, design professionals, planners, and the general public.\ Review civil engineering plans and associated design reports to ensure compliance with City codes, ordinances, and development standards. Plan review will generally be focused on on-site infrastructure, including but not limited to roads, access, parking areas, wet utilities (water,\ sewer, irrigation, storm drain), and site grading and drainage.\ Communicates in a professional manner with project applicants and their consultants, either written, in person, or over the phone. Key communication duties will involve preparing plan review comment letters, responding to questions regarding plan submittals and comments,\ and providing notice of permit/project status.\ Calculates engineering inspection and hook-up fees and enters the fee information into the Citys permit tracking software.\ Manages project details in the Citys permit tracking computer program, including, but not limited to, review status, conditions of approval, fees, inspection status, and final project acceptance/close-out.\ Provides information and training to new employees in the same/similar position on performing specific work tasks as directed by the immediate supervisor.\ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.\ Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned, including but not limited to reviewing and responding to Planning Department applications, reviewing and drafting legal descriptions, updating City utility computer models, performing sight distance analyses, and performing final site\ inspections.\ May perform other duties as assigned.
